Microsoft kills "Messenger" and several other brands

Confirming rumors that have circulated for some time, Microsoft announced on Wednesday (2/5) which will kill the Windows Live brand for all its products. The official announcement came in an official blog post in which Chris Jones, head of development of next generation OS explains the new format of the names of the company's services for the next time.


Names known as Windows Live ID, Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Mail will cease to exist and the services will meet for names (and most elegant) as Microsoft Account, Messaging and Mail, respectively.

All other services of the company also will change.

The computer giant says that changes are only in the names of services that maintain their functionality and features. Another new feature revealed by the post is that the newly released Windows SkyDrive will be built right into Windows 8, and simply use your user account to log in first W8 to get 7 GB of STORAGE network.

According to MS, 500 million people use some Windows Live service every month. The flagship of the family is Hotmail, "most e-mail service network", with 350 million users that store 105 petabytes of data. The Messenger, which has seen better days, is still the leader in instant messaging with 300 million active users.
