WhatsApp says it is a threat to SMS services

You use WhatsApp? I use but not everyone is happy with the popularity of the application. We recently published a study that reported that operators failed to win U.S. $ 13.9 billion with SMS, which is not entirely true according to WhatsApp.

As WhatsApp uses the data network to send and receive messages, the co-founder Brian Acton says the service helps a lot to sell plans tied to data services, which benefits operators. "The important thing is the data," he says. A survey by Allot Communicator, which measures Internet traffic, shows that 18% of the data generated by the IMs are WhatsApp.

Does the same thing, but it is not a threat to the SMS service operators.
The money that operators are losing with SMS, therefore, may have been recovered with data plans. In Taiwan, sending SMS fell 12% in 2011. There is research showing the market situation in Brazil, but it is likely that there has been a slight decline - after all, after you use Twitter and Facebook, it is cheaper to spend a few bytes to send a simple message.

Although not publicly disclose many statistics about the service, we know that in October 2011 trafegaram more than 1 billion messages per day, a figure that has doubled just four months later. The WhatsApp works across multiple systems, then it is very likely that some of your friends use the service. Just install it and let the application scanning your contact list.
