Facebook apps leaves unprotected user data, Claims Symantec

A report by security firm Symantec released on Tuesday said that about 100 thousand Facebook applications could allow confidential information to "millions" of users of social networking leaked by the network.

According to the company, a security flaw in certain applications may have allowed advertisers and a mysterious "third parties " to access to personal information and navigation of the site members. The security company says that "by April 2011 almost 100,000 apps allowed the leak of information"and that "over the years, hundreds of thousands of applications may have leaked millions of tokens and data access to third parties. "

The access tokens are such a kind of "spare key" to allow applications to automatically perform actions on behalf of the user, for example, postings on the murals of friends.

The good side is that - at least for now - there's no great cause for concern. Herself Symantec says "probably not the administrators were aware of the applications of failure "and while acknowledging that such a gap existed, Facebook said the problem was solved.
