Founded in October 2004 by Marc Andreessen and Gina Bianchini, Ning launched its platform in October 2005 and the Social Network Ning, in February 2007. The name chosen, as has Gina, it's because the word "Ning" is short and sweet. How she loved the word, the registrant. Additionally, Ning, in Mandarin (Chinese language) means "peace." A great omen for a media that promotes social encounters between people!

Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Ning now has over 1.3 million social networks and created more than 30 million registered members. Millions of people every day are joining the Ning to explore and express their interests, discover new passions and meet new people.

Building communities

The most important thing about Ning is that it is very well designed and structured to create specific communities for many different purposes. Although there are other social networks that encourage the creation of communities, as well as MySpace or Facebook, Ning is best for this purpose. He is a wonderful place to share, with a friendly interface and highly customizable, integrated with many other services, with various options for use of media.

Become a manager of social networks

When you register with Ning, you can only participate in other networks, the user, or you can create your network, as an administrator and manager of virtual environments. So you can quickly and very easy to become a real manager of Social Networks. In addition, each member of a particular Ning can create their own "communities", "groups", according to different levels of permission granted by the administrator / manager.

The resources available are diverse: ranging from forums and chats and polls to share stories, photos, videos and integration with other widgets and other features.

And you can also choose to share your posts on other networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Digg and Del.icio.us. With a simple click, you can widen the scope of their posts, spreading further and further its seeds on the web.

Privacy

Some cridores Social networks like to share your experience with the world, while others create networks on Ning for only close friends and family.

To allow this diversity of preferences, Ning offers extremely flexible privacy settings for the creation of each network. As a network creator, you have several options when it comes to the privacy of your Ning Network:

- The Ning network can be public. This means that members and nonmembers alike can see your Ning Network. You have the option to make everything visible or just the main page. If you choose "Only the main page, visitors will have to sign up to view other pages.

- Ning Network can be private. This means that anyone visiting the URL of your Ning Network goes straight to a login page. You have the option of allowing anyone to sign up, or only those who were invited. This second option means that new members will receive an invitation from an existing member, to enable them to join your Ning Network.

Both in public and private option, you can turn on moderation, verifying and approving new members, before they enter the network. When moderation is enabled, the network administrator or creator will need to approve or deny the members who want to join the network.

Personal Testimony

The first time I received an invitation to join a social network was encouraged not because the matter did not interest me and I thought it complicated. That's an important tip: for any community to succeed, it is important to be in tune with people and their interests. If not, the community will evolve.

But I had a second chance: I was invited to join a network of people that I loved, around a theme that I was very mobilizing. It was only then that I decided to devote my time to understand what it was. Once I understood, I was hooked.

Ning is easy to use and actually brings people together around a common theme or goal. It's like a big meeting, which can be family, neighbors, between suppliers and customers, between friends, business partners or between people who share the same interest in a topic or activity.

For now, my main experience was as a user. I participate in four communities, but I am very active in only two. I have not had a long experience as manager of the network, but I am on the verge of starting three new networks, with different functions: a family, a work-related and one related to a learning group.

Maybe in a few months I count this experience!

And you know Ning? Got something to share with our readers? If yes, write in the comments below! If not, make sure you know already!
