Surely you've read or heard these phrases at least once in life, is not it? Well, this is a means of social interaction, which is increasingly embracing people of all ages and also (why not?) Companies.
The Itu.com.br, who is making a big story on social media in several chapters, this week chose to bring the famous Orkut, which Brazil won on giant proportions, unlike other countries where Facebook reigns powerful. Check out the main differences between Orkut and Facebook!
Orkut on the net!
Currently, this social networking site has about 52 million registered users and Brazil is the largest number of users, followed by the United States and India. To get an idea of the world's population who are users of Orkut, about 55%, or 29 million Brazilians. It is the new national passion, besides football.
What is it?
Hardly any human being who belongs to our planet, do not know what we're talking about, but anyway, here's a brief explanation: Orkut is a social networking site where each person has a profile and can add friends, send messages , depositions, classify the level of friendship and interact with other users.
There are also communities with which users identify themselves and participate. In these, there are several forums where people express their opinions.
Besides all this, Orkut has recently provided more options to make your profile more unique and with his face. You can put a phrase of greeting, leave your page all decorated with the colors of your team at heart, adding YouTube videos to your profile, or even create dolls in his likeness (the Buddy Poke) that can socialize with other through various actions.
Face Recognition
The newest application (so far) announced by Google for Orkut was a new role in organizing photo albums on the site. Through it, all users have access to a facial recognition tool that promises to identify the presence of friends and relatives in photos at this site. According to Google, the news was already available to the users.
The tool automatically identifies the faces of friends and suggested markings for the user. Thus, Orkut friends will detect and markings suggest using the automatic fill system when the Internet user is typing the name of someone in the picture. Google says the new features will be valid only within the group of friends from every Internet user, for privacy reasons. The user can also turn the face detection if you prefer not to be "autodetected" by the new tool.
"The new feature, available only to new photos sent to Orkut, can automatically detect when faces appear in the images, recognizing features such as eyes, noses, mouths, etc.. But not really identify specific individuals," said Google in a statement.
This tool is already available on other imaging services such as Picasa album, which is also managed by Google.
You know who created the Orkut?
Created on January 19, 2004, the Turkish engineer Orkut Büyükkokten, (hence the name), while studying at Stanford University, the site was originally done as an independent project for Google, but went on to directly embed your service accounts in 2005.
Orkut is filled with many other curiosities, such as: what the community with more members, which possess the category that most communities, which creates more country communities, which is a "orkuticídio," and many others. Want to know the answers to these questions? Then click here!
