Google adds scientific calculator to search results

After releasing a small update to the algorithm Panda late on Tuesday, Google has added a scientific calculator to the search results. The calculator will appear whenever the user makes a search involving math and recognizes from simple terms such as "2 2" and "5-7", to more complex sentences such as "what is the square root of 88?". The seeker was doing mathematical calculations, but now the results are displayed in a way way cooler.

In addition to the basic operators such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, the calculator buttons 34 Google may return the factorial of a number, showing the square root of a value, arithmetic with common and natural logarithms, show constant values (Euler number, for example) and manipulating trigonometric expressions.

The news is not yet available for all users - I still can not get the calculator function in Google Brazil. When the calculator can be used from the mobile interface of the finder, including detecting the position of the smartphone: when upright, just basic calculator appears to show the scientific commands, simply rotate the phone.

The calculator will also receive voice commands, both from the Voice Desktop Search, available on Google U.S., as in smartphones, including from Google Now, assistant staff present in the Jelly Bean.

Twitter will launch tool that exports user tweets

A new Twitter tool will allow users to download their old tweets. The announcement was made to The New York Times on Monday (23) by Dick Costolo, CEO of Twitter. The feature is already present in services like Google, which releases some of the user account data in a compressed file through the Data Liberation your project, created to facilitate the migration of information from one service to another.

Currently the Twitter timeline released for viewing on the user only a few thousand tweets. Thus, if you're longing of the messages published four years ago on Twitter, you can not view them unless you have previously Favorited tweets or use third party services such as oldtweets, a search engine that finds tweets published on the first year of life than Twitter in 2006.

Even without allowing for easy access to your old tweets, Twitter saves with care all that you have already published. These precious messages can be recalled soon, depending on the CEO. "We are working on a tool that will allow users to export all your tweets," said Costolo. "You can download a file with them," he added.

Access to older tweets by others should continue still a bit difficult, however. Unlike Facebook, which features a timeline with easy access to all content you've published the service, with room for months and years, the Twitter implementation of this feature should not come so soon to be quite complex. "You can not just put three engineers on it," said the CEO.

While confirming the development of export tool tweets, Dick Costolo gave no details of when it will be available to users.

Twitter goes down on Thursday

For half an hour Twitter went offline and never return. Users through Facebook asking what happens in the 140-character microblog?. Meanwhile, the only information have been released on the status page of the service and is not exactly good: all the Twitter APIs are failing.

The APIs are the structures that Twitter works. Applications and meets the official website as well as third-party applications that rely on these structures to access resources to which users expect - for example, sending DMs or access to particulars.

Twitter offline
Seven publicly listed by the Twitter API, five passes for "service interruption": identification of friends, favorites, search, timeline on the home page and what they call "users / show." The API "stream" is to "performance issues" and "userstream" listed as "operating normally".

We did a traceroute test to determine if the server had stopped responding. To our surprise, the machine can connect to the Twitter server. Still, the site does not respond.

This morning Google Talk, Google's IM service, had flaws and remained unusable for a few hours. Currently the service operates normally.

Google launches broadband of 1000 Mbps in the U.S

While we celebrate with the plans Velox fiber, the United States took on a new broadband service and cable TV. Google launched a fiber-optic network in Kansas City. The speed is 1 Gbps for both upload and download.

There are three types of plans: the cheapest internet 5 Mbps, the tuition is free. Yes, even for free. You only need to pay the application fee of $ 300 (can divide this value by up to 12 months), but you are entitled to broadband Google with Wi-Fi router and free technical assistance for the next seven years. In this plan, the speed is not symmetric: only 1 Mbps upload.

Then comes the plan of 1 Gbps internet. The fee is relatively salt: they are $ 70, but face it, is a 1 Gbps symmetric Internet. Access is no deductible, but she is so high that you can download the entire family through this connection. Furthermore, the person signing the plan is entitled to 1 TB Drive on Google, cloud storage service. Do not charge setup fee and minimum contract lasts 12 months.

The more expensive plan Fiber Google costs $ 120 per month. Includes 1 Gbps broadband and cable TV in high definition (IPTV). Who signed the tablet takes to toast Nexus 7. The box decoder (set-top box) to the TV service is able to extend the Wi-Fi signal from the router and also has an Ethernet port. Other equipment included for the one who signs the plan is the Storage Box, a 2 TB disk used to store media content, while also acting as a digital recorder to the TV - to record eight programs simultaneously. Has no setup fee, but they are two years minimum stay.

(YouTube Video)

According to Google hotsite Fiber, you can watch TV in the Nexus 7, although not all channels are available on the tablet. Those who subscribe to any of the plans will have a discount on the Samsung Chromebook, which comes out to $ 299 per subscriber.

The service coverage varies with the needs of each region. The district with the highest number of service requests will have coverage before others with fewer stakeholders. It is a democratic (and, why not profit) on how to plan the expansion of fiber-optic network.

It is sad that this kind of service should take to arrive in Brazil. But, you know, we are left to dream and hope that someday it will become reality. Who wants to be drooling a little more service, you can visit the Google Fiber.

Co-founder of Valve says that Windows 8 will be a disaster

The co-founder of Valve, Gabe Newell, gave some statements about the future of gaming at an event in Seattle, USA, late on Tuesday (24). In the speech, Newell commented on the launch of Steam for Linux and said that Windows 8 will be a "catastrophe" that developers would abandon the system of Microsoft.

Windows 8 has the main new interface Metro, adapted for touch screens. The executive, however, believes that touchscreen technology is just a fad, and in the future, we will use computerized wristbands to interact with computers using hand gestures, which are "very significant". For now, the solution is to use mouse and keyboard.

Newell believes that Windows 8 hinder the gaming market. "I think the profit margins will be destroyed in several companies. If this really happens, then it will be great to have an alternative to not suffer from it. " The salvation for these companies would be in Linux operating system that will receive the Steam soon.

Windows 8: catastrophe?
According to Gabe Newell, Linux just does not emplaca time because of missing games for the system. "The major problem that is delaying the Linux games are. People have no idea how the games are important to influence the buying behavior of consumers, "he said. "We want to make the 2500 games in Steam to run easily on Linux as well," said Newell to the delight of users Penguin.

The statements by the boss of Valve are strong, but the question is whether he really believes that Windows 8 will be a problem for the entire gaming industry or are just to "fear" of what is to come. As we know, Windows 8 will include an application store that also sell their own games, which can cause damage in a nice profit from Steam. In addition, Microsoft is working to integrate their products and allow the recently announced purchase of Xbox 360 games directly from Windows 8. It looks like a disaster for Steam, not for games.

Lots of tablets with Windows 8 RT coming this year

Well the Microsoft said that other manufacturers would have Windows 8 tablets available to RT. At least four major OEMs already preparing devices with the future version of Windows designed specifically to interact via touch screens. Asus, Lenovo, Samsung and Toshiba plan to release tablets with the system by the end of the year, according to information from a Chinese website.

Economic Times, a Chinese newspaper that brought the details of this story, says that every chip manufacturer ARM architecture was entitled to choose two manufacturing partners for the launch of Windows on tablets. Nvidia would have entered into an agreement with Asus and Lenovo, HP and Qualcomm to Samsung, Texas Instruments and Toshiba only. It seems that in the end HP decided to ignore the ARM architecture, making Qualcomm also negotiate with Dell.

My understanding of Mandarin still disappointed (in fact I know nothing about the language), but given to understand from what the Google translator exhibited to the Economic Times the news that Acer is one of the manufacturers deprecated at this moment. The Taiwanese should wait until January of next year to present RT tablets with Windows, in what would be a second phase in the unfolding of Windows for tablets.

Microsoft announced that Windows 8 have two versions beyond that intended for tablets, standard and Pro Consumers can buy them in stores. However, called RT Windows 8 will come factory on the devices. In June it was the turn of the MS present to the world line of Surface tablets, which follows a pre-established visual identity and has some manufacturing partners.

For me it is evident that the company led by Steve Ballmer following a method used by Intel with ultrabooks (we did a special podcast on the subject): trying to bring order to the house from the determination of standards that must be followed by all manufacturers decide to release something worthy to participate in the online Surface.

Google Brings Handwriting Feature for Search

After searches by voice and images, Google released on Thursday afternoon  a feature that allows users of tablets and smartphones do web searches by handwriting on the screen of your device. "The handwriting allows the user to use their fingers to write the letters across the screen of their phones without keyboards that take up half the screen or keys that must be found and pressed."

The handwriting recognition system is now available in 27 languages for devices with iOS 5, phones with Android 2.3 and Android 4.0 tablets. The news is that exempt the installation of applications to run. To use just the user to access Google on your device, go to Settings and enable the Script Search and click Save. Google says the system "works best" in Chrome.

However, the tests for this post shows that the action has some flaws. In a Motorola Milestone 2 with Android 2.3, it was necessary to draw large letters, as the browser and hardware limitations just could not regstrar fine. Once the character was recognized, disappeared from the screen and freed space for other letter was written. The process is not exactly slow, but not exactly fluid.

Windows 8 will be released on October 26

The new version of Windows will be ready within a month. The announcement was made on Monday (9) during the Worldwide Partner Conference, an event that occurs in Toronto, Canada. The marketing director for the Windows, Tami Reller, reported that the RTM (Release to Manufacturing) will be released in the first week of August, officially being sold in stores from October.

The RTM version is nothing more than Windows 8 completed, ready with all the features and major bugs fixed. It will be initially released to hardware manufacturers, who will be responsible for developing the new drivers compatible with Windows. Microsoft has not released an official statement, but the developers with access to MSDN and IT professionals with a TechNet subscription should also put their hands in the final version of Windows 8 at this time, as was the release of Windows 7.

Two months will pass before packaging, media and marketing pieces will be ready for Windows 8. In late October, when Windows 8 is released to the general public, the major assemblers such as Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung, also must release its first desktop PCs, notebooks and tablets with the new system, which will be available in 231 markets and 109 languages.

So far, we know that the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro will cost only $ 29 for users who buy a computer with original license Windows 7 between June 2 and 31 January 2013. Current users of Windows XP, Vista and 7 can acquire the update package for Windows 8 Pro for $ 39.99. The price in Brazil has not yet been announced. Will you buy?

Update  | The release date of Windows 8 was more accurate. Steven Sinofsky, president of the Windows division, today announced that users can purchase the new version of Microsoft's operating system on Oct. 26.

Ultrabook LG Z330 Review

Ultrabooks are notebooks  who follow Intel's specifications in terms of thickness, weight, performance and internal components (talk about it in an episode of the podcast). Among the options market is the LG Z330, a notebook / ultrabook that appeared here at the time of its release by giving boot into Windows 7 in less than ten seconds. Now, after spending two weeks with a unit for testing, I can share some thoughts about the product.

Before you begin, I must say that the reviews I write this Tecnoblog are focused on my experience using the product. A regular guy who works in a media vehicle, telling what worked and what failed to use the product. We have a laboratory for this purpose and even this is our goal. This article is the beginning of a conversation about the features of this LG Z330, not the definitive guide for anyone who wants to know whether to buy it or not.

Design and footprint
The Z330 (model 7426)) is no exception to what Intel has set a standard ultrabooks. I feel even that does not give much away to the combination of metal housing and the display of 11 "or 15" inches to get that result. We, therefore, the body made of aluminum with a texture very own: there are several risks along the notebook. The cover will also include texturing, but this time in circles that come with LG's trademark elliptical. In the facet of the display is used dark plastic, which gives more discretion for its emphasis on the 13 inch screen.

On the sides of the notebook is: the input to the charger, a USB 3.0 (high), door to an Ethernet network adapter (goes along with the accessory kit) and a long but narrow, input / output air to the left; output HDMI, 1 USB 2.0 (not energized), audio output on standard 3.5 mm and the microSD slot on the right. The bottom of the device brings several cuts for ventilation and seals from LG, the FCC and the OEM license of Windows 7 Home Premium.

Z330 LG: Right Side
It's a beautiful machine. Some people certainly will associate it with MacBooks that Apple sells a few years, with one body of aluminum. This formula is, so to speak, ultrabooks most common today. If Apple and Intel were the forerunners of these specifications, we can say that LG is doing well especially the booklet public semiconductor giant. Leave the reader to decide whether or not copies of cited MacBooks.

As this life thug we wandered from one place to another with the notebook, I might add that the Z330 is very light. But I make this comparison with the conventional notebooks. We know that ultrabooks should be even lighter. Gives 1.21 kg. Your back will thank you.

Keyboard

Keyboard ultrabook Z330: coarse letters
I quite liked the Z330's keyboard because it is not necessary to "punch" keys so that data entry occurs. Works of course, to the delight of those who may spend all day typing on the computer things. It should be good even to avoid the terrible RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury). The letters printed on the black keys are white or orange for special functions. The source chosen by LG facilitates the location of the keys: it is large and clear. I do not know anyone is interested the following comment: I noticed that the Z330 keyboard keys appear in uppercase (or Caps Lock). Unlike what HP does with the Folio 13, in which the letters appear in lowercase and labels.

Has no backlight
It made me want is that this keyboard illumination in other notebooks (some of Sony, for example). When it gets dark the machine automatically detects that there is less light and the illumination light. It helps in locating the keys. With the Z330 is not so. Being a dark keyboard, runs the risk of the user pick up corn for a while to get used to the new keyboard. Well that LG could adopt the illuminated keyboard in upcoming notebook / ultrabooks.

Trackpad
It seems that the creators of this product had to miss something, even if it was on purpose. As I said, the keyboard is excellent: soft pressing of the keys and large. The trackpad, in turn, is among the worst I have had contact with in my life.

Z330 trackpad disappoints
For starters, it follows the texturing of the carcass - species with horizontal grooves running through the tap area. In this way only increase the friction between the finger and the sensor. For example, drag and drop is terrible because the finger is "catching" on the trackpad. That touch the trackpad itself provide some notebooks does not work with the hit rate than I expected.

For completeness, the buttons are bad. I have the impression that the manufacturer used a large touch sensor (in terms of hardware) and then set up what would be the area of the right button, the button on the left and touch area. There is a tab embossed for separating these three areas. However, the buttons are lacking because the ring often has to be repeated with more force. There is a texturing the buttons makes no difference because the user usually does not slide your finger there.

Software installed
The Z330 comes with Windows 7 Home Premium factory installed. Even with Windows 8 at the door knocking, who will now buy the notebook to use a system that has its days numbered. LG adds some applications in the system yourself. There are few that deserve attention, the rest belongs to the category of crapware.

Some options by clicking the floating
Attention is given to a central options that, when installed, adds a floating screen button. Click here makes that a pretty animation, but ordinary, arise some interesting options for quick access to the user: connect to a projector, power settings, magnifying glass, access to Windows Mobility Center settings and Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, among other . These are options that make no difference to the computer geek who knows (he knows where to find them), but can be of great value to consumers "normal" computer. Common functions are just a click away. Only dispense even the floating button (I do not know if there are settings to hide this button).

Media FUNtasia: LG software to view photos, videos and music
For group photos, videos and music has FUNtasia Media, another unique application of LG suspects that scans directories for content that interests you. I was particularly pleased with the search function of pictures. Much better than trying to get that image last year on a day that you do not even remember what it was. It is a simple application that may be available for download on the Internet. Should please some of the public.

There's nothing productivity Z330 by default. It comes with Office, but are actually links that lead to the purchase page of the productivity suite. Moreover, featuring Windows Live Mail. Only.

Using and abusing
Excellent processor, RAM 4 GB SSD one of respect. Of course, the Z330's performance impresses the user out of a traditional notebook (heavier and HD) for tests. This ultrabook have what is best in terms of hardware, from what I see. In my daily use (remember that this review relates to my experience?) Had no crashes, blue screens or anything like that for the tasks of editing text in Word, use the Chrome browser and Firefox or quickly treat the image in Photoshop. The machine responds quickly even when there are 13 tabs open in your browser. It was what I expected and notebook fulfills very well.

The famous boot which I spoke at the first presentation of the Z330 for the Brazilian market was confirmed in everyday use. The SSD has an important participation in this rapidly across, so perhaps the more merit is to create Intel's specifications ultrabooks. Anyway, it's true: the boot is fast. The return from hibernation or sleep mode it is with great speed. Are always two or three seconds to get the device up and running in front.

Below I reproduce some benchmark tests. This is not our main goal when writing a review, but may serve as a baseline for readers who care more this kind of information. Note that there were those who ran right.

Battery Performance
I never ask how many hours of battery life, LG promises to ultrabook Z330. Working on a normal day lasted just over 4 hours and 30 minutes on a machine running Windows power plan set to "balanced" connection via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth off and screen brightness by 70%. I already mentioned above which are the applications that I use and the tasks that usually meet during the day. There is an eternity, without a doubt, but it represents half of the eight hours of work that most of us should follow.

Restoration without Wi-Fi
When we receive a product to test typically we restore to factory settings. We understand that this is the correct way to test, because, well, we use what the guy at the store will also use to buy the device. That said, I noticed that the restore wizard back to the original settings and disables the WiFi I do not know why this happens. When restored, the Z330 simply no longer displays the wireless network adapter in Device Manager. I questioned the vendor about this curious aspect of the device and will publish the response here as soon as it arrives.

Verdict

Z330
The ultrabooks are a class of products in which it gives very innovative. Were thought to be high-end and charting trends to be followed in the rest of the industry. LG knows it and follows it with the Intel Z330 demand. We have a beautiful product, light weight, good performance and quality hardware apparently. This game has a price: R $ 4,099.00. I assure you that delivers everything it promises. However, in terms of price, only you can tell which is the limit. There are notebooks simpler and cheaper than serve to fulfill my tasks with ease. This unit goes beyond being a top-notch.

Importantly, Z330 uses second-generation Core i7. Some ultrabooks already the third generation of processors (Ivy Bridge) are coming to market. Another factor against the product, is an integrated Intel GPU HD 3000 Graphics.

iPad body weak than Nexus 7

Tablets are expensive enough for you to have the greatest possible care to use them. But when accidents happen they proves to be disaster.

The SquareTrade, a company that specializes in selling insurance against breakage of gadgets, has staff trained to test and compare the durability of smartphones and tablets. Last year, they concluded that the iPhone 4S is weaker than the Galaxy S II. This time, the torture session involved the New iPhone and the Nexus 7, Google's new tablet. The test has falls in slow motion and submersion in water, then take the children's room before watching the video:

(YouTube Video)

The Nexus 7, a tablet and lighter than the iPhone third generation, has suffered a few scratches on the casing after falling a few times and know a bathtub full of water, but the tablet from Apple came out with several clicks on the glass screen, especially the corners. After being immersed in water for a few seconds, the speaker of the iPhone went dead. The tablet manufactured by Asus, however, survived fiercely.

If you are very clumsy and likes the idea of bathing with a tablet, consider purchasing a Nexus 7.

Dell will sell ultrabook XPS 13 with Ubuntu

After a true Mexican soap opera between Dell and Canonical, it seems that the relationship between the two companies has further improved: very soon you can buy a ultrabook Dell with Ubuntu already installed.

The idea of a ultrabook Ubuntu born directly from Sputnik Project, an initiative focused on creating a Dell desktop Linux environment entirely geared to developers. As the project seems to have attracted much interest, Dell decided to expand the initial plan of a development limited to the sale of the product.

As it is still a product designed for developers, installing Ubuntu will come with several development-oriented applications in the cloud, including allowing users to create "micronuvens" in the system, so they can test their applications.

The ultrabook based on the XPS 13, now sold with Windows, it should show up until December and will come with Ubuntu 4.12 preinstalled. For now there is no confirmation that the product will be sold in Brazil. There is still no set price for ultrabook with Ubuntu, but it is speculated that cost less, because they do not have the Windows license. But there is no guarantee that this will actually happen.

Canonical will unite web applications and desktop in Ubuntu 12.10

Since the internet became popular and grew rapidly, the number of applications that run directly from the browser increased by an absurd amount, and today it is more common open up dozens of tabs in the browser of the different programs. The problem with this is that you end up getting lost in the midst of so many flaps and even simple actions (such as checking if an email arrived) require a series of clicks. To resolve this, Canonical aims to unite web applications to the desktop in Ubuntu, using the WebApps.

The concept behind Ubuntu WebApps is relatively simple: to integrate web services to the desktop through plugins, and allow users to control and view information without having to directly use the browser. For example, rather than leaving a tab open in your browser just for Gmail, you can put a Gmail icon in the Unity Application Launcher and thereby be notified of new mail, or receive notifications by desktop notification system.

You will still need to access Gmail by browser, but the obligation to keep the tab always open ends. And you can even leave your browser open and working smoothly, opening only when you receive new mail.

The list of possibilities is long, and tends to increase as other sites are added. Online music sites (like Kast.fm) can be controlled directly by the volume control in Ubuntu. You can right click on an image and upload to Facebook directly from the menu. And so on.

In some cases you still need to keep the tab or the browser open, but only the fact that you can forget the browser while working as greatly improve the productivity, and make the whole environment more light (no more leaving millions of tabs open infinitely in your browser).

The official announcement made in Canonical's blog has a video that illustrates this integration that creates WebApps.

(YouTube Video)

The list of services that have already joined the WebApps is large and covers several known sites and games, such as Gmail, Windows Live Mail, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Cut The Rope, Angry Birds, Last.fm, Grooveshark, Google Docs and WordPress. with. Other services can be added easily, and WebApps API documentation is available online.

Those interested in starting to use this system still must wait a bit: it will be used natively in Ubuntu 12.10, and should be released soon as an add-on for Ubuntu 4.12 LTS.

Firefox OS is available for testing

Mozilla bet to confront the powerful iOS and Android OS Firefox entered a phase of public beta this week. Now developers worldwide can download and run the operating system, which will make its world premiere Brazilian shelves in early 2013.

This is the first time the software was officially announced in May, can be tested publicly. Despite being aimed at smartphones and tablets, for now the program is only able to run on computers with Windows, Mac OS X or Linux, since it is only one version prior to application developers. "If you're a developer, you can use this version for creating and testing your own webApp," explains the team responsible for creating the new platform.

Unlike its rivals, Firefox OS will run applications created in pure HTML5, which should make life easier for developers. Remember that multiple applications for iOS and Android are also created in HTML5, but are then "locked" in specific formats for their systems.

On Thursday a blog called TechWeekEurope released a series of screenshots of Firefox OS. The images showed an elegant system, with elements inspired by Android, iOS and even Chrome. Soon after the Mozilla "about" confirmed the veracity of the images, saying that these were old pictures and a new look will be revealed soon.

To test the Firefox OS, follow the instructions on the Mozilla developer wiki. You must download the source code and compile the Firefox OS on their own.

You Can expect the Lumia 900 and 808 PureView next week

Attention, fans of Nokia: We where invited to a press conference next week that has everything to reveal two very anticipated products. Yes, I'm talking about the Nokia 900 and Lumia PureView 808. The second has been announced along with the information that the number of videos (controversial, I might add) "I lost my love in the club" was an action of the Finnish manufacturer. The Lumia 900, however, seems to be the most desired at this time.

The event will take place in a design school in Sao Paulo on Tuesday, April 24. Before receiving the invitation above, which formalizes the commitment, the company had already sent us one with a teaser in which he spoke on "Creativity. Design. Technology. "I have no doubt that the VP of global design has much to say. Maybe he runs into an interview? The company will also give a lecture open to the public on the same day (invitation here).

The anticipation surrounding the Lumia 900 is great because this is the high-end phone from Nokia in various markets. Has larger screen of 4.3 inches. The other attributes are similar to the Lumia 800 we find in the stores for some time - including Windows Phone will not receive the version 8. Nokia has not given details of the prices to be charged for 900. If you follow what happened with Lumias 710 and 800, values have special plans for operators.

The pricing plans with different carriers, incidentally, is what differentiates the two releases. For now we know that the 808 PureView cost $ 1,999. Nearly two thousand dollars for a phone that runs Symbian, a system considered by the former portion of the technology enthusiasts, but that bonus offers a powerful lens camera can take pictures in 41 megapixels - even after resorting to oversampling is necessary to generate the final image of 8 megapixels.

I can say that the readers of TB were not too happy with the figure to be charged for 808 PureView. What do you think the Lumia 900 worth? Recalling that the Lumia 800 in the house today costs from $ 1,400.

Galaxy Nexus receives update to Jelly Bean

Announced in late June during the event for developers Google I / O, the new version of Android, named Jelly Bean is starting to be distributed to users of the platform. As usual, the line appliances Nexus will be the first to receive Android 4.1.1, starting with the Galaxy Nexus HSPA + connectivity.

The lucky ones received the update notification yesterday. On some days, anyone can install a virtual keyboard with Android more precise, intelligent application updates, notifications central fuller voice assistant and other improvements. The Jelly Bean is also more agile, thanks to Butter Project, an attempt by Google to make the experience more Android "fast, fluid and smooth."

The update will be distributed over the air by the end of the month to the owners of Galaxy Nexus (including the version with LTE connectivity), Nexus S, Motorola Xoom and Nexus 7. The warning has not appeared on my Galaxy Nexus, but it is common practice for manufacturers to release updates in "waves" to prevent a failure affects many users at once. There is a trick to jump the queue, but still the update is not guaranteed.

Brazilians have a problem: besides the fact that the unit is sold with the name Galaxy X, due to legal problems with Nexus Telecom, the national version has an Android modified to meet legal standards and includes a widget to the information carrier and a shortcut to the manual in Portuguese, among other changes that I did not notice. The Galaxy X does not receive updates directly from Google, is the responsibility of Samsung, which does not seem to be very fast, while the Nexus was in 4.0.4, the X was on Android 4.0.2.

As the Galaxy X and Galaxy Nexus have the same hardware, you can change the ROM to start receiving updates from the official Google. And who has not had the courage to perform the procedure, when it will receive the update? The Rene Fraga, Google Discovery came in contact with the assistance of Brazil and the Samsung was not the best answer:

Samsung already has in its Roadmap Android devices with the new OS Jelly Bean, and this platform will launch soon. With respect to upgrades of devices already on the market, our focus now is to bring the Ice Cream for the entire portfolio Sandwidch compatible with this version.

That is, you will receive the update sometime, but the focus of Samsung at the moment is to take the delay of the devices that have not yet received the Ice Cream Sandwich. Be patient, and while waiting, read our hands-on to get in on the news of the Jelly Bean.

Hackers publish login and password of Yahoo 450000 Voices Users

Yahoo had the time of suffering the trouble n Thursday. One of the company's services, it is suspected to be the Yahoo Voices, was raided and had their database and login passwords exposed - and in plain text for all to see.

According to the blog Naked Security, the raid was made by a group of hackers calling itself D33DS Company and they published all 453,491 combinations of email addresses and passwords of the service, all unencrypted. It is unclear whether the database kept text passwords or if the group was able to decrypt them before publication, but they say they have had access to data using SQL Injection.

Voices Yahoo was announced in December last year and it is a portal where Yahoo users who have some expertise in any field can publish articles about what they know. By the time of this post, Yahoo had not spoken officially about the attack.

All these recent leaks and attacks the database serve as a warning to anyone who is smart. There has never been a better time to change your password - and be careful not to use the same combination at different sites.

Update | Yahoo confirmed  that the leak of passwords actually happened, but it is an old file of the site. According to the company less than 5% of the combinations would be valid username and password - and the people who were affected have already been alerted.

Facebook monitors chat to detect suspicious activity

You are talking to someone on the Facebook chat? You may not be alone: a software for monitoring the social network Mark Zuckerberg is able to track the activities of users in chat rooms and detect suspicious behavior. In March, Facebook was able to save a girl from sexual assault after an analysis by the service staff.

The algorithm searches for phrases obtained previously in chats criminals, including those involved in sexual abuse. The Reuters reported on Thursday (12) a success. A 30 year old man was talking about sex and arranged a meeting with a girl of 13 years. The system automatically sent the Facebook chat history on Facebook officials, who analyzed the conversation and called the police immediately. The criminal was arrested the next day.

Some people should not to like the idea of having read your chats, but Facebook's security director, Joe Sullivan, said that only a small part of the conversation is accompanied by humans. "We never wanted to create an environment where we have employees watching private conversations, so it's very important we use a technology that has a small rate of false positives," he said.

The system focuses specifically on conversations between users who do not have as strong a relationship on Facebook. People who do not speak often have significant differences in age or live far apart, for example, receive special attention and have more chances of getting caught by the algorithm.

The story is controversial. While some believe that monitoring can inhibit the activity of criminals, others argue that a private conversation between two people need to be particular.

Chinese are already buying iPhone 5

The next generation iPhone was not presented here, but is already in pre-sales in China.  Some e-commerce sites in the country  are already doing pre-sale versions of "generic" the next generation Apple's smartphone, which will be announced during the months of September and October.

One of the sites where the iPhone is being offered is 5 Taobao, in which sellers ask for signs that start from $ 320 to pay the full amount - £ 2,200 - to ensure appliances to consumers. As indicated by the Reuters news agency, the "traders" using false assemblies and technical specifications to entice consumers.

As it is not possible to determine exactly what are the features in iPhone 5, a salesman came to the point of citing 17 new technologies with a percentage that indicates your chance to be on the new machine. According to the subject, the next iPhone has 20% chance of having a biometric sensor.

"The demand is high. Just yesterday someone bought two phones. We have received dozens of requests, "said another vendor Xyaoyo identified as the news network. The seller does not give any deadline for appliances.

While the model of truth (and lying) is not shown, several vendors-commerce site Alibaba are now offering various types of rigid and silicone cases for iPhone 5. Most have the plug of the headset at the bottom. When asked where they came from the specifications of shapes and sizes, vendors could only say that the data from "certain channels".

The next generation of ubiquitous and omniscient smartphone apple should be presented in the third quarter, and hit the stores in time for Christmas. Apple, of course, does not talk about it.

Benchmark confirms MacBook Pro 13-inch Retina Display

Information collected by the service benchmark  indicate that a version of the MacBook Pro 13-inch screen Retina should be released soon by Apple. According to service records, June 29 test was done with a model identified as MacBookPro10, second, a name that indicates a new generation of computer with 13 inch screen. The current MacBook Pro Retina trucker goes by MacBookPro 10.1.

The codename of the current generation screen is MacBookPro9 13, 2, while the 15-inch model with common screen is called MacBookPro 9.1. For the MacRumors site, this pattern indicates the arrival of a new notebook with high-definition screen and 13 inch screen.

If these data are relatively simple to spoof other information revealed by the test are more consistent. The model used an Intel Core i7 2.9 GHz, the same as is currently in version 13 of the top line and operating system code indicates that the machine runs a Mac OS X 10.8 Lion Mountain for a manufacturer's internal testing. The motherboard is also the same used by refurbished MacBook Pro and MacBook Air 15 inch shown at the beginning of June, when computers did not have 13-inch big news.

Every year Apple makes at least three events to introduce new products. A Mac OS X, one for an iPhone and more generally related to music (read: iTunes and iPod). So maybe the new computer to steal the scene in the presentation of the new iPhone, but those interested, it is recommended to wait seated.

PayPal closes siege of file sharing sites

Some months after the crisis from Megaupload, it seems that PayPal seems to be taking their horse to prevent any rain from processes of the entertainment giants. A change made in terms of using the tool listed a series of rules that file-sharing sites should follow.

Among the demands made by the giant of payments, is the restriction of illegal users can upload files, including piracy. Sites that do not prove to PayPal that monitor the shared files and have a piracy prevention are at risk of being banned permanently from the tool. This means that any site that has followed the same line of business Dotcom Kim will have to arrange alternative payment.

A representative of the MediaFire site TorrentFreak spoke to on the subject. Since last month the site no longer accepts payments by PayPal after a series of conversations with the company that made too many demands about how they dealt with users' files. Already the British company said it withdrew PutLocker use PayPal for finding invasive the new policy: "We already have a strict policy against this sort of thing, we do not feel comfortable with any one other company snooping the data of our users."

Apparently the turbulence caused by the case have not yet passed Megaupload. This is not the first time that PayPal changed its policy prohibiting or services to use your tool. In 2010, the company has blocked all donations received by Wikileaks.

Skype Failed to resolve Messages Problem

Think twice before using Skype Chat to send private messages too. A strange flaw in the software makes the conversations between two people are received by a random person. The problem is not corrected, it was reported initially in the help forum service on Tuesday (10).

A small number of messages is sent to a third person, usually present in the user's contact list. "Some days ago, a friend of my contact list received some messages that I had received earlier via another contact. It seemed that these messages were sent by me. It's very confusing, "said one of the users. Readers Tecnoblog also reported similar problems.

There is still no official information of how failure occurs. Skype issued a statement saying that the diversion of messages happens only in "rare occasions" and the team is working to repair the defect. "We are releasing a fix for this problem and in the coming days we will notify users to lower an updated version of Skype."

Apparently, the strange behavior of Skype started after the launch of the latest application update in June. Because the service has about 250 million users, even a failure "rare" can become a major privacy issue. Besides being embarrassing.

New PS3 models with 16, 250 and 500 GB appear in the FCC

Whenever I make a visit to the famous SGCH Anatel, the system that are published in the latest devices approved for sale in Brazil. We've had some leaks in this important system in the past and now it seems is one of those days. On the afternoon of Friday found that at the end of last month which seems to be a new model of PlayStation 3, with capacities of 250, 500 and even a 16 GB has been certified by a laboratory and published in the system.

The list of files available on that link, along with a batch of statements or omission of Sony that were conveniently published yesterday. But as always, the photo files were available on the external server for all to access.

We have information that Sony has no plans to sell the products in the country. Although the new models have been approved by the FCC, the idea of the company is continuing with the current models without modifying the portfolio for 2012.

The new model PS3 has an obvious difference in design, as you can see from the photos. The certificate does not speak from the bowels of the apparatus and therefore there is no telling what else has changed, but cites that as previous models, it comes with support for Bluetooth and WiFi 802.11b / g (and that was why he had to go Anatel).

Amid the files there is also published a "letter of similarity" (you can see below) sent by a Sony executive who says that all models that have been submitted for certification are all identical except for storage capacity. And in that letter that cites the executive models, which use codes CECH-4011A, and 4011B-CECH CECH-4011C, have respectively 16, 250 and 500 GB capacity.

Recently a new model of the PlayStation 3 had been approved by the FCC, the U.S. equivalent of the FCC, but there is no requirement for photos. Perhaps this model that was approved by the FCC is the same as was approved, but there is no way to know for now. The point at which we can speculate is that the 16GB model can be a cheaper option than the Sony console and will offer in Brazil soon or not. Perhaps to compete with the Xbox 360 4 GB?

Google will disable iGoogle, Google Video and more

Now is the time for another round of service shutdowns just used Google as part of the company's effort to redirect the focus of their employees on what matters most. The Mountain View giant, which began in their general cleaning products for some time, today announced that among the services that are the future plans to disable iGoogle, Google Video and even a chat widget Google Talk.

IGoogle is dead
Who uses iGoogle has until November 1, 2013 to export your data and find a replacement for the service if you wish. Users of Google Video, in turn, will have until Aug. 20 to migrate their content to YouTube, download a copy to your computer or delete it. The content is not migrated or deleted will be automatically migrated to the YouTube videos as private, which should avoid personal clips that end up being seen by all.

Will also be discontinued called Google Mini, which is part of an offer to custom searches focused on companies, Google Talk chatback, widget allowing website owners talk to their visitors, and search application for the Symbian platform, which the company says it makes no sense to offer as the web version of the search is already good enough.

In protest  users  said they plan to send angry emails to the company.

Microsoft knew that Windows Phone 7 have short life

The Windows Phone was known to be a very fluid mobile system, with tight integration with social networks and also for rapid updates released by Microsoft and the manufacturers. Upgrading to Windows Phone 8, however, was still a mystery: no one knew if the current smartphones would receive the news. No one except Microsoft itself.

During the event for developers Windows Phone Summit, Microsoft finally revealed that the devices Windows Phone 7 not receive upgrade to Apollo because the new system resources were not exploited by current hardware. It would make sense to release a system with support for memory cards and dual-core processors are the smartphones sold today have only single-core processors and no internal storage expandability.

According to Greg Sullivan, senior product manager of Windows Phone, Microsoft knew from the beginning that devices with Windows Phone 7 would not receive major upgrade, but the company decided to leave this information secret and not told ahead of time users .

"For normal people, the idea of recompiling a kernel does not seem a great way to spend an afternoon, but some of us are special. The idea is that the updates are very important only to a small group of passionate and influential users. The overwhelming majority of users of Android makes no updates - often because the manufacturers do not give that opportunity, and even when they are, users do not update, "he said.

Core shared between Windows and Windows Phone 8 8.
The development of the Apollo was done in parallel with the Mango and some features of the new system were ready even before the launch of the first Windows phone, so the short life of the system was already planned. Sullivan said that the unification of the core Windows Phone with Windows kernel has always been the company's plans. So why Microsoft decided to launch a new system with a lifetime so short? "For us it was important to establish a new approach to user experience and begin to create an ecosystem for developers," said the executive.

There are still doubts about the future of Windows Phone: So far, Microsoft has just announced that the new home screen will arrive via Windows Phone 7.8. We do not know if the technology Nokia maps, integrating with VoIP services or Internet Explorer 10 will be available to current users. In addition, you can not run applications in WP7 WP8, which can cause major frustrations. It is practically a new operating system.

Microsoft leaves the impression that the current Windows Phone users were just guinea pigs for an unfinished system. The technologies do not last forever and Windows Phone is still a great system, but knowing that all units will be stagnant in the current version 7.8 makes me very disappointed - and who spent all their savings in a Windows Phone 7.5 or stuck to a contract two years with U.S. carriers must be even more frustrated.

Microsoft Network discovers spam formed by infected Androids

The anti-spam engineer at Microsoft, Terry Zink, made a disturbing discovery last Tuesday. Analyzing samples of spam, the officer noticed a large amount of junk mail coming from servers of Yahoo Mail. All e-mails have the signature "Sent from Yahoo! Mail on Android," possibly indicating the presence of an international network of infected cell spamming on a large scale.

"All these messages are sent from Android devices. We've all heard the rumors, but this is the first time I saw it - a spammer who controls a botnet that lives in Android devices. These devices come in user account on Yahoo Mail and send spam, "said Zink.

We do not know exactly how these users are infected, but the engineer found common features in the header of the email: most of the junk comes from developing countries, including Chile, Indonesia, Lebanon, Oman, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Ukraine and Venezuela.

The Microsoft employee finds it difficult for someone to be infected by just installing applications Play Store, but believes in the possibility of users have downloaded a malicious application in order to avoid paying a legalized version. "Either that or they installed some malicious application from Yahoo Mail," he said.

Galaxy Nexus will receive patch to avoid ban in the U.S

The recent ban on selling smartphone Galaxy Nexus in the United States was not frowned upon by Google, responsible for the design of the device, or by Samsung, which produces in China and possibly other locations. This week Google said the site All Things D will release a patch for the device that circumvents the patent problem.

According to Ina Fried, a reporter for the site, the patch should be published as before for consumers who have a Galaxy Nexus. The device was brought to market at the end of last year and has updates straight from Google, since the Ice Cream Sandwich in this unit does not undergo changes carriers.

Apple asks U.S. court in the misuse of four patents in the Galaxy Nexus. However, the judge who ordered the temporary ban on the sale of the product was based on only one of these patents is about the "universal search". Google seems willing to support the Samsung in this endeavor since the current generation of Nexus was the first phone with Android 4.0.

Google shall use the U.S. patent office to review the granting of intellectual property creator of the iPhone and the iPad. You can be sure that the search will also bring to justice the concept of the "universal search" has existed since before the Apple patent request relating to its use.

While not obtain injunctive relief in favor of themselves, Google removed the Google Galaxy Nexus Store Play. You can no longer buy it in the U.S..

Several experts have said that the U.S. needs to reform the patent system and intellectual property (IP). It is the time in which these means were used to protect the innovation. Currently - my opinion - what else we have seen are patents for trivial and everyday resources that are far from what we might call "innovation". I remember seeing President Barack Obama speak negatively about the allocation of intellectual property.

iPad Mini coming soon, says Bloomberg

Very quiet at this time. Personally I do not believe much in the case of Apple releasing an iPad with smaller size. Still, given the news agency Bloomberg that the company led by Tim Cook has been preparing a tablet smaller than the iPhone third generation. "Apple plans to release a smaller and cheaper iPhone by the end of the year," says the agency.

Bloomberg found from two sources "with knowledge of these plans," without naming names, that the device would display with 7 or 8 inches. The product is not supposed to follow the concept of Retina Display (screen High pixel density) used in a new model of MacBook Pro and iPhone 3.

That's all the news site says about some specialized vehicles are called "iPad Mini." I wonder if Apple would sacrifice the user experience towards a smaller and cheaper product that is able to compete on equal terms with the Nexus 7, the tablet designed by Google and manufactured by Asus which was announced last week during the conference Google I / O. Of course Apple can embed a screen resolution of Cases, this supposed older iPad Mini, and thus ensure compatibility with all applications present in the App Store.

The Nexus 7 is $ 199 U.S. (plus local taxes). Price well below the iPad simpler, with 16 GB of storage and Wi-Fi: $ 499 (plus local taxes) in that country. The tablet Google, in terms of price, competes directly with the iPhone 4S, also from Apple, which costs the same value, but with two-year contract with any mobile operator.

First photo of the Firefox OS is published

Announced this week, the OS Firefox is Mozilla's bet in the world of mobile and was derived from Gecko to boot, the system completely done with web standards. Using only standard web, many people wonder what will be the interface and what features it should offer. Probably to appease those curious, an evangelist for the Mozilla released the first photo of the system running on a device.

The photo clearly shows a Samsung Galaxy S II with Rob Hawkes, Mozilla evangelist, which is guarantees to unlock screen Firefox OS. The image, published on Twitpic, shows that the system is slightly different from 2 Boot Gecko when he first appeared in the Mobile World Congress this year. She has also revealed that the system has the option to release or quick access to the camera - as long as the hardware of the phone has this option.

By the way, speaking of models that should run the system, it is unlikely that we will see a Galaxy S II with the addition of Firefox OS images to test Mozilla. The only manufacturers who support the project so far are Alcatel and ZTE and Mozilla has ensured that the focus will be even low-end smartphones.

But we can dream of a day that you can download and install the system in our Android devices currently.

Olympus shows MEG 4.0, It can rival the Glass Project

The manufacturer Olympus, who decided to return to the field of augmented reality glasses. The company, which unveiled a prototype of this type of glasses for the first time in mid-2005 announced today the call MEG4.0. From image released by the company, it seems to have an almost microscopic screen, guarantee, comes with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and battery that has autonomy to run for up to 8 hours.

According to the company in MEG4.0 "proprietary optical technologies" were included that cause it to view the environment maximized. Its screen has a flashing mode that can connect for 15 seconds every three minutes and that, according to the company, makes the battery has all this autonomy.

Olympus engineers, however, did point to include a camera in the glasses - but they remembered to put a Bluetooth chip to connect to smartphones and also an accelerometer, which should show items on the screen into position. The complete set weighs only 30 grams including battery and no date has to be made available.

Remember that even though Google has developed a prototype of its first Project Glass, Apple was the company that managed to register a patent for something like this before. And although the patent cites the glasses from Apple would be used more fixed and less focused on mobility, I can see more potential for a lawsuit between the companies. And Olympus can end up in the middle.

In hands: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

One of the biggest news from Google I / O is the new version of Android. This time, the name of the candy is "Jelly Bean", which some call jujube, others call it just fine and I call it bullet. The update was scheduled for Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola Xoom for half the month of July, but the file has already been leaked. Jelly Bean I installed on my Galaxy Nexus and below you can see that the main news update brought to the phone.

If you have any feature that deserves to be highlighted in this update is Google Now. It is a virtual assistant as Siri iOS, but even more intelligent. Unlike previous versions, voice recognition now part of the unit itself, not depending on Google's servers to decode the voice and turn it into text. Thus, the process of use is much faster, especially when the phone is connected via 3G.

The wizard does not depend solely on actions voice. Since Google already has access to most of his life, the wizard takes the collected information to display relevant data to the user. Among them, weather forecast with greater accuracy (measured up to the neighborhood), tickets, locations near you, local traffic (including estimated time of arrival of the place where you are to your home), translations and scores of events sports.

All this information is stored in what Google calls "cards", and access is much simplified. The lock screen has been redesigned, and clicking on the bubble release, there are three options: camera, Google Now and unlock the phone. Moreover, by pressing and holding the "Home" button anywhere in the system comes a shortcut to open the wizard with ease.

In the voice features, many of the actions are similar to Siri, Apple. You can make appointments for any given time, activate the alarm, search for definitions and translations of words, get the weather forecast and points of interest nearby such as restaurants, gas stations and hotels, and quickly connect to any point of interest available Google Maps.

I found the wizard quite helpful, but I must point out that the voice commands do not work in Portuguese. I believe it should not take long for the action to be implemented, after all, the voice search works pretty well. Indeed, it is not possible to use voice commands to the language of the cell is other than English.

The Android notification system that was already good just got better. Jelly Bean in the notifications bar has been completely redesigned, most notably the information. They also become more interactive: when taking a screenshot, a notification appears with the image quite large in size and may even share it from there. When you receive an SMS, the message is displayed and from there you can reply with a link or return.

With notifications dynamic comes with a range of possible applications. Of course not give developers time to adapt to make the most of the system, but I see in the very near future apps that update themselves to take advantage of higher activity and further hold the user.

Moreover, the glorious central share Android has gained a small change. Now, the options are shown in icons, not lists, such as the Ice Cream Sandwich or earlier.

Not so perceptible changes
Although the design of the system does not differentiate much from the previous version, the Jelly Bean won numerous improvements under the hood. One is the incremental update of applications: the new version of the system is not necessary to download an entire application after your upgrade, but only what was changed. Thus, when one of your application is updated almost 500 MB, rest assured you will not need to download everything again. This is great for anyone who has data packets controlled or slow connection to the internet.

Contrary to what was announced, Chrome is not the default browser. The Ancient Mariner is still there, steady and strong, but does not bring all the benefits of Chrome, such as synchronization of tabs. For those who still wish to have Flash support, is a good thing. Who elects Chrome as the default does not have to work hard: just go in the application information and turn it off. Thus, there appear no check box to open a link in any application.

The keyboard has not changed much, but I must say that the self-correction is a little smarter. The language options gained support to the notorious Emojis, which were hitherto restricted to iOS. The support does not allow emojis include text boxes, only to see them (and in black and white).

The Jelly Bean got even more fluid than the Ice Cream Sandwich. In this new version, new effects when opening and closing applications bring a more natural feel when touching the phone. So far, I had no problem with regard to application compatibility.

Everything was much better and more beautiful. However, you still need to tap into a large wound of Android, which is the issue of updating. Adopting the Ice Cream Sandwich was very slow, but as a developer, I can say that the jump to the Gingerbread Ice Cream Sandwich was huge, and even to adapt all the adaptations that manufacturers cismam to keep the phones took (and takes) a lot . I believe that this should not repeat with the Jelly Bean: I consider the upgrade as something incremental, and not something totally new. Adapting from the Jelly Bean Ice Cream Sandwich will be much faster than in relation to Gingerbread.
