Apple Removes Google Books From Its App Store

Okay, none of the companies admitted that situation. But if that's not what actually happened. The story is as follows: the application of reading books simply disappeared from Google's App Store. From what we know so far, Apple would have every reason in the world to put out the Google Books for its app store. However, only one seems to be more than enough.

The new rules for approval of apps for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad prohibit companies responsible for apps direct users to external sites to promote shopping. For example, a store that sells DVDs through an application would have to do it using the procurement system from Apple - one that passes on to the company led by Tim Cook no less than 30% of the total product.

Google Books on the iPhone
Google Books, in turn, is the initiative of the internet business so that users can read books by the platform Google purchased eBooks on smartphone/MP3 player / Apple tablet. This same app also allows you to buy new publications. With a sad thing: the transaction does not go through Apple. Instead, it is done through Google's mobile sites.

You can even search, but will not find in the search results within iTunes to 'google books'. The application was summarily smoothed out. At this late date, Google should have received a notification remembering that it is necessary to offer the same transactions (with exactly the same values, at least) in and out of the payment system in-app from Apple.

Interestingly, removal of the Google Books seems to be partial. If you get it on iTunes, will not find, but you can still download the free app through this link. He is still listed in the iTunes apps index published by the Apple website.

The Amazon is still going strong with your application for reading e-books in Kindle iOS. The question is how long, since it is the same that Apple used to possibly remove the Google Books: there are links for shopping on Amazon.

Google increased its market value at $ 20 billion with Google Plus

Apparently, not only users  were excited about the launch of Google +  Financial market data show that the web giant  could encourage speculators and even expand its market value at all modest $ 20 billion since the advent of social networking, which happened last July 1st.

As noted the TechCrunch site, the roles of the Google (who were falling through) jumped from U.S. $ 484.80 on July 27 to U.S. $ 546.60 on the last day 7 / 7, increasing the market value of the company in U.S. $ 20 billion. Data show that in Wolfram Alpha Google's shares reached their highest value on the last day on January 18 when they came to be traded at U.S. $ 639.63 unit.

Profile in the new social network, the investor Bill Gross, known to open the pocket and energize in companies with Twitter, said, "predicted that Google + will go from 0 to 100 million users faster than any other service in history ". "The service is great and people are getting caught up like crazy.

There are rumors that already has 4.5 million users, which I think is a high number. (...) This might be the fastest growing of all. But this can not be a fair comparison, as Facebook and Twitter were small and Google is huge. In any case, the service is extremely well done and many people will join, "he concluded.

Google Earth displays images in high-def even underwater

In 2009 Google announced a new version of Google Earth with an extra feature. From version 5.0 users could exploit their share of the Earth that went beyond the layer of soil, namely the deep sea. Due to a partnership with National Geographic, they were able to show the program parts of various areas of the four great oceans. And this week the areas covered have been expanded and gained a new feature: high resolution.

The new images were placed in service thanks to the work of dozens of institutions, being the main one was the Lamont-Doherty Observatory of Columbia University. His team of researchers and officials healed and digitized more than 20 years of data from more than 500 cruise ships made by 12 different institutions.

See the video below to get a taste of the quality of the new images.

To install your new layer in Google Earth, simply download this kmz file and start exploring the ocean floor. And the best part: no need to put a wet suit or getting wet.

Google Maps will let you know when bus and train delay

The map service by Google is about to get smart. The company behind Google Maps announced Wednesday that it will pass the state when a bus or train is late, and it will update the schedule for the output of the collective. Too bad, this early, the new feature works only in some U.S. cities and Europe.

Sasha Gontmakher, a Google software engineer based in Switzerland, confessed that always gets frustrated when planning a route using Google Maps and have to wait for the bus to arrive, which invariably delays (yes, it is people like us). Although Google has not put its own as buses and trains in the streets, which would definitely solve the problem, the company struck a deal with transport agencies to receive data in real time delays in public transportation.

Live Google Transit in Google Maps will display traditional, accessible at http://maps.google.com, and the smartphone version of the site, let alone the application for Android. The delay information will be available for those who use public transportation in San Francisco, Boston, Portland, San Diego, Madrid and Turin.

When selecting a bus or train station on the map, Google Maps will pull the most current data on delays. And if you're planning a trip to the service of Google maps, you can take these delays into account.

Recently it was found an Apple patent for a calendar application (iCal probably) that uses real-time data and transit time to keep the user informed. Some readers of TB proved disbelievers with respect to the patent. Well, there is Google taking another step toward that reality.

Chrome: new guide comes in the initial test

There is still no official word from Google on the subject. Anyway, the company shipped on Tuesday an upgrade to Chrome with what appears to be a new option for the initial guide. I refer to the Chrome build 12.0.742.91 in Windows 7 for comment on the matter.

Above you see the new tab's initial Chrome. It features the 8 most visited sites in my browser usage, and allows viewing the recently opened pages. If the browser closes unexpectedly (you never know when a blackout will happen), this is the best chance of recovering what you were reading.

The funniest thing is that the initial guide this experimental version of the browser displays the options Foo and Bar Just do not ask me what it means, because both options carry blank pages here on my machine.

about: flags
Perhaps with an eye on touch interfaces, the original experimental guide lets you switch between modes Most Visited, Foo Bar and clicking on any part of the screen and drag the mouse cursor to the desired direction.

What do you think will be the Foo and Bar? I have not found references on this subject in the internets.

To enable the experimental initial guide: type about: flags in the address bar (Omnibar) and enable the New Tab Page "experimental. At your own risk, eh.

Google to abandon old browsers in its online services

Google is a company that always aims to the future, and this reflects in how we treat versions of their software. For example, if you're using one of their services is probably the last version, because when a new version is launched, Google does best so that you upgrade.

Although you can not force other companies to follow the same spirit, she can no longer support older versions of software from other companies. And that is exactly what is happening with Google Apps.

The point is that Google wants to continue to develop new tools for your web services using the latest features, but at the same time, older browsers end up messing the update process.
Update difinitiva be in August

With that in mind, as of August you will not be able to rely 100% on any Google Apps service, as it will no longer work correctly in Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3.5 or Safari 3.

Google has made this decision so that you are obliged to update them. If you do not, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Talk and Google Sites are simply inaccessible.
The upgrade will cost nothing, it offers more features, more security, and probably a faster browsing experience. There is no disadvantage to get the latest browser on your machine.

Google abandons support for Internet Explorer 7 and other old browsers

Maintaining a good web-based service is difficult when we are talking about the technology of browsers. The problem hardly exists here  because readers are mostly understood the technology, who keep their software updated. With Google the rabbit hole goes. This week, the company announced a policy to support browser versions.

From August 1, Google dropped support for Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3.5 and Safari 3 (Opera was not mentioned in the press) as well as earlier versions of these applications. The company's intention is to support the most current version of browsers, as well as the second major release later. From the third major release version (in reverse chronological order), there is no guarantee that the resources of the services will work.

This decision by Google comes in handy. As the Web matures as a platform for development of complete technology solutions, companies that operate in this market need to define how the old software will be supported. Other Web giants such as Microsoft and Yahoo, should do the same.

Google cites the notifications in the desktop Gmail and drag-and-drop capabilities to Google Docs that depend on most modern browsers. They want to keep innovating, but it is not possible if not take advantage of HTML5 and technologies that only modern browsers support them.

Among the services whose features may not work right if you do not pay attention to the version of the browser are: Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar (Google Calendar, the English name), Google Talk and Google Sites. "Eventually these apps will stop working completely. "

It should be remembered that Internet Explorer is at version 9, free download. Unless you use Windows XP, there is no reason to stop updating it.

Bing, Google and Yahoo unite to guide webmasters

The search engines have different ways of working. This is what ensures the competitiveness in this market, largely led by Google. But in order to better target webmasters, the top three search engines have come together in a very interesting initiative. The Schema.org born bolstered by Bing, Google and Yahoo.

In the joint announcement, the searchers explain that the Internet is increasingly complex. To determine which is more or less important, nowadays the algorithms using several elements that must be strategically positioned in the source code of the pages, without appearing to the reader. Often browsers were adopting different elements to the same thing, which tends to change from now.

From Schema.org, webmasters, developers and site owners can see a vast documentation on implementation of codes that are accepted by Google and Yahoo by Bing. Gone are the story of putting the same element several times on the page because each search engine to recognize differently.

The Schema.org provides information to help structure the web pages for search engines to recognize more than 100 specific information, like names of movies, directors, companies, products, places, and so on.

The promise is that as the use of micro data (as the items are officially called) will increase, search engines will be smarter. And who benefits from this is the end user, which will search more accurate. Webmasters, get to work!

Google accuses Chinese Hackers of trying to hack gmail accounts

Gmail users are not safe. Google fired a warning on Thursday about Chinese hackers trying to gain access to Gmail accounts. Instead of looking at ordinary Internet users, cybercriminals Gmail tried to undermine the U.S. military as well as "prominent persons", according to information from WSJ.com.

The attack was driven from the city of Jinan, 400 kilometers from the capital Beijing. Its purpose would not only get access to Gmail accounts of military, U.S. government officials, journalists, activists, Chinese and Asian officers, but also forward messages from who knows where.

According to Google, the attack was successfully contained. No information about the Gmail accounts, much less e-mails were sent. The search giant used the FBI in Washington to investigate the attacks. And Google says that U.S. government leaders were warned that their individual email accounts raided hacker (but still intact).

While Google does not claim that the attack was coordinated by the Chinese government, the company has not failed to say that the targets would be interesting only to the Chinese dictatorship (especially activists).

China denies having any involvement with this situation. The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said it was "unacceptable" charge that kind of responsibility on the Chinese government tells us to Folha.com.

This week came under discussion in the United States a document, due for release next month, which deals with foreign attitudes on the Internet that could be considered acts of war, including the possibility of U.S. military retaliation.

Eric Schmidt: 4 companies dominate tech market: Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook

Previously, the dream of every geek specializes in computer giant was working on IBM and Microsoft. But the world has shifted the focus of software applications for desktops and smartphones, mobile and Internet.

This is the view of Eric Schmidt, former CEO and current chairman of Google (Chairman of the Board), which was shown at the conference D9. He said the new group of technology companies - "The Group of Four" - consists of: Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon.

According to Schmidt, these companies, in addition to providing services that were not available before (eg, Amazon, you find the books you want), develop platforms on which other companies can build their applications. A famous example of this is the cloud and the APIs from Google and Facebook applications. These companies would be so valuable that together would be worth 500 billion dollars (about 790 billion reais).

Why Eric Schmidt did not include Microsoft? For him, the company Bill Gates is not totally focused on the end user but in the corporate market, and thus, it can not scale like other big companies.

However, Schmidt does not expect a consolidation of the four companies or dominance for long. As he knows, the technology market varies greatly in a short time, being that Google was an unknown 10 years ago. He also cited other companies that are growing, such as Twitter and PayPal

For completeness, the chairman explained that companies have to chase innovation and creating new products all the time. In the case of Google, its new focus is the distribution of music based on the cloud, unlike Apple which provides via iTunes.

Service handles searches on Google and hidden negative data

UK businesses that offer Internet marketing services are exploring a new and potentially lucrative market lode: the administration of reputations. The service, which ends up working as a public relations network, involves manipulating the search engine sites like Google for unwanted articles about a particular company or person to be passed to the last positions in results lists that are displayed on users' screens.

In Britain, football players, politicians, actors and businesses that have suffered negative publicity in the media are some of the customers who have been paying for the service. Speaking to the BBC Brazil, the founder of one of these companies, the South African Chris Angus, said the increasing power of search engines and the increasing concern with privacy issues should make services like this are increasingly important in the world .

"Imagine if someone published a negative article about you on the internet. Our job is to weaken that article in proportion to other, more positive, so that the negative item will not appear on the first page of search results," said Angus.

To organize search results in order of relevance, the site Google uses a complicated algorithm based on multiple criteria. One, very important, is the number of links that a page has to other sites.
"What we do is look for positive or neutral articles about you and put links to these articles on other sites," he said. Statistics show that 90% of users of search engines look at only the first page of results and very few move beyond the third.

Therefore, the negative items are "hidden" in the results pages that nobody reads. The service is not cheap. Angus said his company charges between $ 15 and 30 thousand to hide negative information about their customers. The process, he said, lasts about two or three weeks.
The site of another British company that offers a choice of service, Kwikchex, based in Bournemouth, England, mentions some of the cases in which the company is currently working on:

A tour company is losing business because of bad publicity after a temporary failure on their computers have resulted in problems for customers, an airline accident has been investigated and that happened a long time is being used to harm competition by an airline, or a campaign against a company blog by a former employee.

Companies that specialize in hiding the negative publicity admit that there are ethical implications in relation to the service. "If someone is breaking the law, if someone is being harmed, we do not accept the job," said Angus. "For example, it would work for an African dictator or for people who have committed serious crimes such as murder."

Angus said the administration sector reputations emerged as an attractive niche market for about three or four years. He explained that it is difficult to know with certainty in the sector generating companies in the area, but risks the figure of U.S. $ 20 million annually in Britain alone.

The firm of Angus, Warlock Media, based in the English town of Banbury is a market leader in online marketing, specializing in promoting websites that appear at the top of search listings.

"This service is the opposite of what happens in the administration of reputations when push negative stories to the foot of the lists," he said. Angus has been in Brazil and said he was in talks with Brazilian companies. "Because of the great opportunities that anticipate, should come around."

Hillary: Google's complaints about China are 'very serious'

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday that the accusations of piracy in China over Google with Gmail accounts from American officials, journalists and Chinese dissidents are "very serious". "We are very concerned (...) These allegations are very serious, we take them seriously, and review," said the head of U.S. diplomacy during a press conference.

"Google told us about the accusations, which raises serious concerns and questions. We hope the Chinese government explains," Clinton said in a statement. "The ability to work with confidence in cyberspace is essential to society and modern economy," the secretary of state.
Hillary announced that it will make "a speech about the importance of Internet freedom in the 21st century next week, when further information on this topic and the facts are clearer."

On Thursday, China rejected the accusations of espionage made by Google. On Wednesday, the Internet giant would be denounced "a campaign to crack passwords of users" over the internet in China originating from Gmail accounts from American officials, journalists and Chinese dissidents.
According to the BBC a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry is "unacceptable" to blame China. Google has not directly blamed the Chinese government, but said operations were originated in the campaign hacking originated in Jinan. "Hacking is an international issue and China is also a victim. The accusations of support for hacking are completely unfounded and have ulterior motives," said the spokesman Hong Law

According to Eric Grosse, director of the engineering team at Google Security Team, the company's official blog, "The goal of this effort appears to be overseeing the content of this e-mail users." The statement said the theft of passwords sought to change the settings for routing of messages as well as third parties to ensure access to accounts.

The operation has affected hundreds of people including senior government officials from the United States, China's political activists, soldiers, journalists and officials from various Asian countries, especially South Korea, said Grosse.

In a statement, Google said it had "detected and ended the campaign, conducted through phishing, said the victims, secured accounts and notified the relevant government authorities." The company also said that Gmail's internal systems were not affected, and the theft of this information is not the result of a security issue of the service. The White House said it was investigating the reports but does not believe the official accounts of the U.S. government have been breached.

It is not the first time Google's China denounces a cyberattack. In January 2010, the company announced that its operations had been the target of attacks in order to have access to the correspondence of Chinese dissidents, in addition to stealing the company's trade secrets and codes. This complaint led to a growing tension that had even the intervention of the U.S. government that led Google to temporarily close its search engine in the country. Tensions subsided at the beginning of last year, when the Chinese government has renewed its license to the company and search engine no longer automatically redirecting Chinese Internet portal to free Hong Kong.

Google tried unsuccessfully to enter into a partnership with Facebook

Google confessed to having tried unsuccessfully to form a partnership with Facebook, as part of efforts to adapt to the changing technology landscape and maintain their growth. Eric Schmidt, chairman of the board of Google, said on Tuesday that Facebook had rejected their attempts to reach agreement, and acknowledged that he had worked hard enough to face the growing threat of the largest social networking site in the world, during the years he was chief executive of the company.

"Three years ago, I wrote memos talking about this issue in general terms. I knew I needed to do something, but could not," said Schmidt. "A chief executive needs to take responsibility. I was wrong." Schmidt, who in April completed its ten years as chief executive of Google and transferred the command to Larry Page, 38, co-founder, made the comments during a conference D9, organized by AllThingsD blog.

Google, which had revenues of 29 billion dollars last year, is the largest worldwide search. But their advertising operations, the base of the company business, are under threat from young companies and fast growth, such as Facebook and Groupon, while the emergence of new technological equipment also aroused growing rivalry with Apple. During a 90-minute interview conducted at the podium of the event, Schmidt discussed the scenario of an increasingly competitive market and increasing regulatory pressures and privacy advocates that Google is suffering.

The officer seemed to ignore the software giant Microsoft, which "is not propelling the consumer revolution." Former Apple board member, Schmidt admitted that the relationship between the two companies became "difficult" when Google began to develop its Android operating system for smartphones, though the companies remain partners in some business. Google recently renewed the agreement with Apple to supply the mapping technology used in iPhone.

Google releases +1 button for the entire web

Initially restricted to the search results of Google itself, the +1 button was released today to the entire Web. The button was created to compete with Like Facebook, but only now is available for all it's going to serve this specific purpose. Upon release, site owners can integrate them into their pages, facilitating the sharing of their content over the web.

With it certain links and sites will appear at the top of most pages of Google search, specifically the English version. This kind of ranking will only take effect if the user has selected the option of using the search button +1 trial, otherwise the page will display results as they would by default.

Google announces Gmail for People Widget

Gmail is an great email service  but there is always something to improve. Google knows this  and therefore today announced a new feature pro service, called People widget. She is a dynamic information box that sits on the right sidebar of the message and shows details about the person who sent it, as the latest posts, and other shared documents.

These characteristics are quite similar to the add-on for browsers called Rapportive, which originally appeared in 2010, and the add-on for Outlook called Xobni, which is basically the same thing. So similar that I do not doubt that may have served as inspiration for Google to create the People widget.

The People widget also includes a feature that is already active since 2007 but has yet to win the official client, Google Talk: group chats. With it you can talk to several people (Google does not say exactly how many) and possibly even talk to them on video.

As with all new features, Google does not push a button and it magically appears for all. The People widget will be activated gradually to all Gmail users over the next two weeks.

Update at 17:09 | Contrary to what we said before, the functionality of the chat group has existed since 2007, it will only be facilitated with the People widget. The text of the article was amended to reflect this information.

PayPal and eBay take Google Wallet to the court

The big announcement made by Google about Google Wallet  threatened eBay and PayPal and now these two companies filed a judicial complaint in the United States, that Google and its employees violate trade secrets and intellectual property with the new service.

EBay and its subsidiary PayPal produced a document with 28 pages (few hours) where they state that two employees providing services specifically related to payment systems for mobile devices left PayPal to work at Google. With these signings, eBay said that the search giant managed to technical and market knowledge to enable the Google Wallet service, which uses communication technology proximity NFC to make payments and commercial transactions.

In the case file, nominally the company cites Osama Bedier, who served as vice chairman of the department Platform, Mobile and New Ventures Company. [Bedier] helped form the broad strategy of PayPal to expand its mobile payment and offers a digital wallet, "says the document, which also states that the executive was" extremely involved "in attempts to become a PayPal option payment at point of sale. Currently, Osama Bedier is pointed to by Google as the leader of the project that became Google Wallet.

Stephanie Tilenius is also mentioned. According to eBay, she worked as a consultant to negotiate the entry of the PayPal payment service in the Android Market, shop for smartphone apps from Google, in the period 2008 to 2011. She suddenly ceased to provide its services to PayPal and then became a Google employee.

EBay discusses what appears to be the purest dirt business. PayPal says it has developed extensive knowledge on how to process payments on mobile devices, which was made possible through the investment of time and money on innovation. Suddenly, according to the company, Google comes along and uses that knowledge without worrying about patents, trade secrets and other corporate resources.

In the documentation, eBay snipe Google comes to commenting on the failure of the company's own initiative in the segment of digital payments. "After five years in operation, Google CheckOut had virtually no impact outside of Google," says the document.

In its official blog, PayPal says it will sue Google because they believe that the law was violated and that their business secrets need protection.

If the U.S. court considers the merits of the case as unfounded, it may be that Google is prevented from placing Google Wallet available to more consumers. Currently, the Wallet is going through a pilot program.

In other words, Google will have to prove in court this whole "Do not be evil".

Google indexes images of the arch-enemy Bing

In February, Google has not saved harsh words to denounce that Bing was copying their search results for words that did not exist in the search index of the research service from Microsoft. Now it's time for Microsoft to make similar accusations.

According to The Next Web, Google is indexing the images that systematically Bing uses its cache of search results for images. That is, robots crawl the Bing network for photos, which are copied to their server and are displayed when the user does a search. Already Google is indexing these images (already copied) and displaying the search results themselves through images.

A simple search command on Google Images reveals nearly 8 million images hosted on mm.bing.net, the address of Microsoft's search engine to keep the thumbnails. Look:

There are two implications of this situation. The first concerns the Google index results from a direct competitor. Just as they do not want Bing conduct searches within their system, the reverse should apply to Google itself.

The second implication concerns the actual modus operandi of the searchers images. Currently they create their own copies of the photos, which are in the air even when the owner of the photo strip it down. For example, if I publish a photo gallery on TB and then decide to remove it, it is likely that these images remain stored in the cache of search engines. How is my rights to the pictures? Something still unexplained.

Update on 30.05.2011 at 14h44 | A closer examination of the situation, made by René Fraga Google Discovery, shows that the images are being indexed by Google because they were included in the pages from the files stored in the Bing. It is as if the user searches for a picture, and to find it in the Bing, simply copied your address, without bothering to upload the file to your own server.

In the language of the Internet, is what we call a hotlink. Still, I can not understand why Google indexes the cache directory of images of Bing.

Google uses seawater to cool its data center

What is the most efficient way to cool a processor or anything else without using a machine with cooling? Water! The problem is that the use of cooling water to high concentrations of computers can add to the cost of installing the whole system compared to a conventional refrigerator. Now imagine the need for refrigeration that Google has for their monstrous servers can function without a gasp.

When Google bought an old paper mill and turned off the year 1950, located in the city of Hamina, Finland, realized ir could also use the coast to channel water and cool their computers at no cost and without harming nature. The company used a large barrel, which has channeled the water, and installed pumps to bring water from the sea, a cold their computers and give back to their place of origin.

However, the water is not returned with the heat collected from the servers, since it is at an offsite location to lower the temperature so that the return can not cause damage to nature. With this attitude the company managed to eliminate all conventional cooling methods, since the water is cold enough and there is available at no cost.

BlueStacks: Android applications run on Windows

The Google Android is causing great excitement in the smartphone market, especially with applications and games that can be downloaded from the internet. However, users who employ desktop very difficult to enjoy these applications on Android why bother yourself switching between desktop and smartphone.

This is no longer a problem because the company brought BlueStarcks an interface to run Android applications in Windows. As the Android-based smartphones have touchscreens, the BlueStacks worked so desktop users can have the best possible use, which depends on your computer. If a common desktop, you can use the traditional mouse, if a tablet or a touch screen monitor, you can use your fingers.

In addition, BlueStacks thought the best use of the screen where you view the screen or the Windows or Android. To make the switch screens just press a button. If you are lucky that one can have more than one monitor, you can use a monitor for Windows and one for Android.

According to BlueStacks, support for the App Store is limited to Amazon for Android, Android Market for now is out. The focus for the future is to run Windows applications inside of Android. Unfortunately this does not happen so soon because there is no Android version for x86 processors such as Core i5 / i7 Intel. Remember that normally smartphones using ARM processors.
