Eric Schmidt: 4 companies dominate tech market: Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook

Previously, the dream of every geek specializes in computer giant was working on IBM and Microsoft. But the world has shifted the focus of software applications for desktops and smartphones, mobile and Internet.

This is the view of Eric Schmidt, former CEO and current chairman of Google (Chairman of the Board), which was shown at the conference D9. He said the new group of technology companies - "The Group of Four" - consists of: Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon.

According to Schmidt, these companies, in addition to providing services that were not available before (eg, Amazon, you find the books you want), develop platforms on which other companies can build their applications. A famous example of this is the cloud and the APIs from Google and Facebook applications. These companies would be so valuable that together would be worth 500 billion dollars (about 790 billion reais).

Why Eric Schmidt did not include Microsoft? For him, the company Bill Gates is not totally focused on the end user but in the corporate market, and thus, it can not scale like other big companies.

However, Schmidt does not expect a consolidation of the four companies or dominance for long. As he knows, the technology market varies greatly in a short time, being that Google was an unknown 10 years ago. He also cited other companies that are growing, such as Twitter and PayPal

For completeness, the chairman explained that companies have to chase innovation and creating new products all the time. In the case of Google, its new focus is the distribution of music based on the cloud, unlike Apple which provides via iTunes.
