ICANN approves domains .Brand

In the near future, Google may provide addresses or http://brasil.google http://mail.google. No  .Com or  .Net, or any other termination address (the gTLD, its acronym in English for generic top level domain). ICANN approved on Monday a resolution establishing the final address. Brand - for want of a better name, will the same.

According to the agency, which is responsible for the structure and stability in the large network, the decision represents a "historic change to the system of Internet domain names." Today there are 22 gTLDs around the world, aside from those for countries (we have it. Br). With the domains. Brand, says ICANN opens the Internet addresses for what human ingenuity can produce.

We still depend. NET in the end
Who else will benefit from the change are the internet companies and large groups, which may have their own name as domain, which helps to avoid problems with the domain name a mark which is used by others, usually for practical malicious.

The discussion about the new TLD is old. In October 2010, I wrote in TB that ICANN intended to open this network resource for anyone. As an example, we could record the end. Tecnoblog to present special sites on the Apple http://apple.tecnoblog or on Microsoft in http://microsoft.tecnoblog. The same goes for the domain. Gay, passing the same kind of discussion - particularly since governments would find it easier to block gay-related content, such as occurs with the gTLD. Xxx to block "adult" content.

Having a gTLD will cost little. Just to send the request for registration of, say, the. Ubuntu, Canonical would have to shell out $ 185 000. If the TLD is approved, the annual fee to keep the ending address will be another $ 25 000. Not to mention all the costs to perform domain registrations, as the company to buy a TLD will be responsible for it (the record is, in technical terminology).
