Ubuntu 11.10 will have new login manager

One of the key changes expected to Ubuntu 11.10 is to change the current login manager, GDM, by LightDM, which will enable developers and designers to create a login interface that is appropriate to Unity. And to make this transition happen as expected, Canonical needs YOUR help!

The advantages over the use of LightDM are many: much lighter than GDM, does not require loading various libs GNOME (and therefore takes less time to load and can be used for other window managers without regard to GNOME ) and is much easier to program, both in the backend as part of the layout. Not to mention that all the common functions such as network logon and others are available in LightDM

But that change can happen until the release of Alpha 2 Ubuntu 11.10, the help of users is needed. This is where you enter the Developer's request for help Robert Ancell on the mailing list of Ubuntu. He said it was important that the largest possible number of users to install and use the LightDM, and submit bugs and suggestions to the team. The goal is to stop being so LightDM:

LightDM planned: handsome
And how you can help make that happen? Just install the LightDM on your machine and try it! If you have Ubuntu 4.11 installed, run the following commands in Terminal:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa: lightdm-team/ppa
sudo apt-get install lightdm lightdm-theme-gnome

If you already have Ubuntu installed an alpha 11/10, the command is this:

sudo apt-get install lightdm lightdm-theme-gnome

In any case, with LightDM installed, Ubuntu will ask you which login manager you prefer to default. From there, it's about using and send all bugs and suggestions to the developers.

There is a page on the Ubuntu wiki that best describes some tests that can be done with the LightDM. It's worth a look. Perhaps you can find a super bug and win the admiration of the entire team of developers of Ubuntu?
