Microsoft is accused of collecting location data of users of Windows 7 Phone

This week, Microsoft was sued on charges of collecting location data of its users. The alleged collection occur in the most unobtrusive as possible: when the camera is triggered for the first time, the system asks the user to that location to be attached to photos.

Even denying the request, the phone starts to transmit data intermittently Wi-Fi and cellular towers to a Microsoft server.

I think now all the mobile platforms have been accused of collecting location data, right? Count me in: iOS, Android, Nokia / Symbian, and since last week Windows Phone. And who does not collect is hipster, right? All right then.

The interesting thing is that in the commotion locationgate, Microsoft said it would only collect data from the user's location with its permission. Well, not exactly what the author found the process Rebecca Cousineau, with the aid of a security analyst.

To date, Microsoft has not commented on the process.

Apple, Google, Microsoft and Nokia said that use data from the user's geographical location to improve the accuracy of the location when the user is using a map, for example. However, there is some controversy regarding the use of such data, while enhancing the location, they could also be used for other purposes such as marketing strategies.

Personally, I do not care to collect more data or not. Prior to these findings, we used our smartphones quietly, not knowing that information wi-fi networks were collected. Once found, we continue using our phones the same way. What I really care is that these data are anonymous and encrypted.
