The week was good for Google users - and not even notice that it's over. Aside from the voice search on the home page of the search engine, the company also activated by dragging and dropping on Google Images (Google Images for those using the service in English), including what is already working on the site in Portuguese in Brazil.
Behind the new feature is Google Goggles, which turned into application for Android and iOS. Basically, it reads the photographed image and tries to identify the main subject of the photo. It then returns search results for that topic. Exactly the same technology was added to Google Images.
In the quick test that you see in the picture above, I selected a famous photo of a can of potato chips and, using Chrome, I dragged the file into the search box and waited for the upload to complete. Then there was the product name in the search box, with several imaging results showing similar photos. It works!
According to the company, one advantage of using images to search for (Search by Image) is to find the exact place you were without having to take notes or anything like that. On a trip to a national park, for example, no need to worry about knowing what is that rock formation in the background. Once at the hotel, the answer is an upload away.
The drag and drop images on Google relies on most modern browsers. Anyway, Google has already warned it will not support older browsers. It is more than right.
