Review: Nokia C5-03

In this competitive mobile market, small may be the key features needed to appeal the choice of a particular product. And when we think of devices that represent an inherent quality of your brand, we can remember, no problem, Nokia.

After years as a market leader and with a series of award-winning products, is it a good enough name for the model chosen for this review, the C5-03, is effective when it was proposed? We can say that. He responded well to everything that is proposed to do, and with an interesting configuration of applications already included - all running very well.

Operating System
The device is equipped with Symbian OS S60 5th Edition, which, for many, can be a problem. Nokia's own recently "killed" your system in the U.S., indicating that it would begin work with Windows Phone, Microsoft. This should be a trend that will extend throughout the world and may complicate things for users of Symbian, including the owners of the C5-03.

However, considering only the actual phone, Symbian works very well. It is a bit trickier to move to Android, for example, but is very stable and has a significant volume in its App Store. However, the most interesting, of course, are paid. Panning and you may find many free solutions, including customizing your phone.

We can not compare with the Ovi Store or the Android App Store. Is much lower and this picture should not change. However, one negative point to be made. Sometimes it overwhelms the system (even with a good processor, the ARM 600 MHZ) and the phone automatically restarts in the middle of his task. It may be a small inconvenience if you are doing important work.

Design
The look of the C5-03 is lightweight, compact and efficient. In the very first time ever we look at the screen and the front buttons (to connect and make calls) are well placed and marked. On the right side we have the dedicated volume buttons and locking device.

At the top we find the USB port and a dedicated headset. This point is interesting: following the trend of the new devices, we can connect earbud (input P2), which is great to escape the documents that accompany the equipment, usually expensive.

Speaking of headphones, the C5-03 plays the songs very well. Your player is functional and has a great quality, and balance (which can be customized) makes the listening experience even more intense.

We just lack of a dedicated button for activating the camera. This feature would facilitate the implementation of the photo app, and would increase the experience in this regard.

Screen
The screen has 3.2 C5-03-inch, 640 x 360 resolution and a throughput of up to 16 million colors. It is a good setup. It's all very clear and well defined. The touchscreen responds well, even being resistive. In fact, this is a reality in most Nokia devices. We can customize the home screen so that we find most interesting, choosing the applications that will be the immediate access (just below) as well as contacts for quick connection.

With just one touch on top of the screen, we can change the profile to silent, for example, or trigger the alarm and manage the connections used at the time. The accuracy of the motion sensor is high and its accuracy is remarkable. However, sometimes it works too much and drive a small device the screen changes to a horizontal position.

The sensitivity of the rings is above average. We feel that when we have to send a message and change the position of the keyboard to the horizontal, to write quickly.

Camera and GPS
As stated before, the lack of a specific button commits the execution of the camera. To capture an image, we have to touch the screen, or anything that is not functional (especially when trying to take your picture). In contrast, the resolution is 5 megapixels and has a 3x digital zoom.

Another point worth highlighting are the scene modes, we can tailor the way we see fit. In low light, night mode is indicated, to compensate for lack of a flash LED model.

The image editor is less functional than usual. It has many features, but not so intuitive. The video mode performs recording of good quality, up to 640x352 and 15fps. In this way, we can also select a variety of settings such as scene mode (similar to camera), color tones, etc.. It's a good thing for when we do not have a camcorder, as even the capture of ambient sound is satisfactory.

One of the strong points of the C5-03 is the GPS. It has an integrated GPS receiver and comes with Nokia Maps 3.6 pre-installed. Sure, he often takes a while to recognize his position, but if your machine using the GSP assisted (using the antennas of the operator to enter the position and is charged) the solution is much faster. The visualization of all routes and path characteristics are well defined and clear on the screen, which facilitates its manipulation.

Anyway, even taking a little longer than a conventional device, this GPS system is a good resource and a major difference in the time of purchase.

Internet and Wi-Fi
The icing on the cake model C5-03 system is the Wi-Fi - WLAN 802.11b / g. The connection is stable and hardly ever falls. This is a good point. The transmission of data does not lack a good connection and can surf the Internet safely.

The device comes with a series of applications related to social networks: Facebook, Orkut, You tube (in fact, runs great videos) and MySpace. It's worth installing Foursquare, because with all forms of connection is very simple to carry out a check-in. The device allows us to configure up to 10 email accounts that are available on the Home screen, facilitating their identification and handling.
