Steam sets record: 5 million players connected simultaneously

The store and Valve's gaming platform is making the most successful worldwide. Part of that success is measured with the number of players connected simultaneously to the service. In early January, once again, the Steam servers registered a new record for simultaneous connections: for more than five million.

The Verge The reports that on January 2, a Monday like any other, except for the fact that many people still was not back at work, Steam recorded exactly 5,012,463. Almost there at lunchtime in the U.S. (I guess the west coast, but this has not been confirmed), which gives longer in the afternoon here in Brazil.

Among the titles were played during The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Team Fortress 2, 3 and CoD Modern Warfare Counter-Strike ever present. Are you a fan of any of these? Recommended by gambling Steam servers? Make your comment in the comments ....

Steam's success does not come today and serves to prove that there is, yes, space to play "game" on the computer. The current generation of consoles are still the focus of many players who want to worry about buying hardware just once and spend five or six years without worrying about it. On the PC, so I know does not always work that way, but the category is still very hard.

Here at The Next Web they point to the arrival of Origin, a game store from Electronic Arts (EA our dear), as a further factor which supports the heating of the category of PC games to Valve If the owners do a lot of money Steam, imagine what EA has to get ready. Are eyeing this market entertainment that little by little, he climbed the threshold of the world's most profitable.

So successful that PC games are still the most pirated. Crysis 2, that the more circulated in Torrent, had almost 4 million downloads. The islands are far from it, with Super Mario Galaxy 2 in the best position, registering 1.28 million downloads. Gears of War 3 most downloaded Xbox, recorded 890,000 downloads.

In total, Steam has 35 million active users.

And there were people saying, in a not too distant past, that computer games were in their final days. I see. This story still going to samba.
