Sony to abandon "Ericsson" and low-end phones in 2012

Google and Motorola have already spoken about the details of the purchase, Sony had not spoken much about the plans they have for the future of company mobile. Over the weekend a company executive said finally what can we expect.

According to the vice president of marketing and sales Kristian Tear, one of the changes will be the loss of the Ericsson brand name. After all if Sony bought the joint venture over to it, will not want to keep the brand of another company, right? But this change will happen faster than some thought would happen: up to half of next year we will have no more cell phones with the Sony Ericsson brand in the market.

In addition, the loss of the name Ericsson will be accompanied by change in focus of the company, which will cease to manufacture low-end phones and should focus only on smartphones.

Sony Ericsson is known for having a nicely varied portfolio of devices, including in the field of low-end. This is how they are successful in developing markets, including Brazil. For this reason a change in focus of this magnitude should be also accompanied by significant improvements in the experience of Android, currently its main system for mobile smartphones. Or at least that is the twist to happen.
