Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Released - See what's new

After the trial versions of all time, finally Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was released, and it's time to know the news of this new version of the popular Linux distribution on the planet. The main novelty is the new HUD menu system that lets you run commands on the menu by typing what you want to do, without using the mouse. The standard menu is still there, but if you want to test the HUD is just press the ALT key and type what you want to run.

Before continuing, it is necessary to understand that the version of Ubuntu is 12.04 LTS (Long Term Support). And what that means? Firstly, LTS versions are time expanded support for five years. This means that Canonical will continue releasing updates and security fixes for this version of Ubuntu by 2017 at least. And, secondly, that the Canonical has focused all its efforts on a stable and quality, avoiding large changes in the system and new developments that could pose future problems.

Moreover, in general, both the login screen and the Unity were much nicer and faster, bringing a series of fine adjustments. For example: Now, when changing the wallpaper, the whole color scheme of the launcher is automatically changed to match the predominant color of the wallpaper. The Video Lens has also been upgraded and became part of the Unity, allowing you to search for videos on the Internet for various services.

To make life easier for beginners, the installer program now adds newly installed programs automatically on the launcher, and a progress bar lets you quickly see where she stands with the installation. And speaking of installation, the Ubuntu installer displays a stream of the hashtag # ubuntu during installation (you obviously need to be connected to the internet to see).

Paranoid on duty can have fun with the new manager privacy tool that allows you to choose what you will or not in the system.
