French president says that "Web is not a parallel universe"

In his speech during the opening of the G8 meeting in Paris, France, President Nicolas Sarkozy raised some questions regarding the neutrality of the web and network impact on the production of content protected by copyright.

Asked by a reporter if he would accept U.S. sign a treaty pledging "not to hurt the Internet, " the French president said that "global revolution we're seeing is peaceful and does not happen on the battlefield, but in universities "he told an audience that was composed by famous names from the world of technology, such as Erich Schmidt (former CEO of Google), Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia founder-guru) and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook).

"But this world that you represent is not a parallel universe in which moral and legal rules that govern our democratic society are not applicable, "he added. "From the moment the Internet became an everyday part of life for most people, it would be a contradiction keep governments away from this great forum" he said, arguing that ending "controls on illegal activities on the network could never be considered harmful" .

Since 2009 France has in place an anti piracy laws the strictest in Europe, where the Mariners have their drive on the network constantly moderate demand from users who are downloading illegal files of copyrighted content.
