Google and Citigroup will invest $ 110 million in wind energy


Google and Citigroup each invest $ 55 million project in Upper IV, Earth-Gen Power, capable of generating 102 megawatts of power in California, the companies said.


Terra-Gen Power, who works with renewable energy project is building the Alta Wind Energy Center (AWEC), with wind-generating capacity of 1,550 MW in various stages, of which five have been completed.

Google and Citi will buy the project and lease it back through leasing for Ground-Gen, which will manage it and operate it under a long term contract, Google said in a statement.

Terra-Gen is an affiliate of ArcLight Capital Partners and Global Infrastructure Partners.

The project is expected to become one of the largest generators of wind power in the United States - with the capacity to supply 450,000 homes.

Under the agreement, Google's investments in clean energy sector totaled $ 400 million. As part of plans to reduce its carbon emissions, Google has participated in projects for renewable energy to generate power for their datacenters.
