AMD announced this week at Computex 2011 its new processor platform for tablets, called HD Tablet Platform, based on Z-Series APUs. The Z-01 is the first family of devices known as "Desna" and the company has confirmed it has begun to send them to their partners.
AMD also reported that the Desna has two cores running at 1GHz and consumes only 5.9W Bobcat energy, causing the battery has a long duration, with up to 10.5 hours. While this new series features AMD processors that are entirely friendly to the tablets, they also support the full version of Windows. Like many other resources such as HTML 5 support, Adobe Flash, external displays and more.
The Z-Series aims to increase digital experience of tablet PCs and, besides, this series from AMD also offers a much greater safety for those working in IT. Along with the Z-series chips, AMD also released the 9-series chipset, AMD's a component called "Scorpio", which is the next-generation desktop platform, which also uses the eight-core processor "Zambezi" and the line graphics cards AMD Radeon HD6000.
The tablets have been a dominant theme at Computex, it is not surprising, given the number of companies trying to enter the market has been growing ever since Apple introduced its first iPad last year. Research firm Gartner expects the market to grow about 70 million units this year to 294 million in 2015.
