AIM Launches video chat

AOL just announced a new version of their messenger, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) for the web. This version runs directly from the browser, and oddly enough, does not require any type of account you specify. This means that there is no need to create an account and do not need to enter your name in the service. All you need is an internet connection and a camera.

The man behind this new version of AIM is Jason Shellen, he has worked in Google Reader and Blogger, that is, something good should come out. He says the goal is to create something new that would give AIM a real presence on the web.

Although the service does not have a feature that makes you go into a random chat, as in ChatRoullete, it has a shortened URL to help the dissemination of his chat on Twitter and Facebook. It closely resembles the service of Twitcam now can only hope to know what the position of AOL if the service starts to be used for transmitting images of nude people.

You may be wondering: What happens to the old AIM? Well, Jason Shellen and his team are working hard to remake it for the Web and make it friendly with other messengers.

"This is our first product on the Web, but the AIM.com will be a place where we offer a wide range of tools, " says Shellen. "We made the decision that we want to open the XMPP". And that's exactly what they did, AOL recently announced that AIM will have integration with Gtalk, and they are already integrated with Facebook.
