For some reason, Nokia found that creating a new brand for some of their services would be a good idea. It did not anticipate that Ovi Store and Ovi Maps cause confusion to its users, since they do not have much association with the main feature. So much so that the symbol of the Ovi by Nokia had to put it name to remember who it was. Today the company is announcing something more sensible: the retirement of the Ovi brand.
The transition will be gradual and should start in July this year, with completion scheduled in all regions by the end of 2012. All services that now carry the brand Ovi will be updated and should receive the Nokia brand in place. Thus, Ovi Nokia Maps Maps turns Store and Ovi receives the nickname Nokia Store.
For those who have read the TB for some time, he also knows that the Ovi brand created a headache for Nokia here in Brazil because of a company called Listen, which also operates in the sector but not manufacturing mobile phone, but works in industry dissemination and marketing.
The Finnish manufacturer had to gain in the first instance, but I heard the planned appeal. With the retirement of Ovi, Nokia is also likely to get rid of the process.
But the main advantage of all this is less complication for the user, who will know exactly who the shops and the company's programs. Glad that sense created at Nokia Ovi and decided that she deserved eternal rest. No one ever going to hear the brand Ovi. Or otherwise, I'm not sure.
