The supermarket chain Carrefour has begun to release on Monday a campaign that is quite interesting. They released a shortener URLs - simple enough, by the way - with a noble goal: to allow the counting of grams, pounds and tons of food to be donated by the company. The Virou.gr already in the air for anyone to use.
Simplicity is the watchword in this project. To shorten a URL using the service, each character will result in savings 1g donated by Carrefour. It may seem little, but you think those URLs giants we face daily are many characters that can easily turn food to be donated?
Clearly this is a marketing thing, to viralized supermarket chain in social media. However, it requires so little of the user to make a difference in someone's life. The institution selected to receive the donations is the Brazilian Red Cross, a reliable and competent organization that will certainly make good use of food.
From what I understand, this action is limited to 10 tons of food. Namely, when the goal is reached, no more grass will go to the Red Cross. Still, it's worth. And even has bookmarklet to facilitate the use of Virou.gr shorten time to new URLs
