Firefox 8 will be as fast as Google Chrome

Speed is not everything that companies focus on while developing browsers, but is a big part of their programs. With Chrome, Google has achieved a level of speed that left others looking to cut flab which code to try to do the same. And it seems that Mozilla was the first one to get.

The Firefox 8, which came out yesterday in the distribution channel Nightly reached speeds that are comparable to the development version of Chrome. In tests performed by ExtremeTech site, JavaScript rendering, 2D and 3D graphics in the browser were as fast or even passed the speed of Chrome 14. And not only that: the speed of opening and session restore also suffered notable performance improvements.

Compared with Firefox 5, the current stable version of the browser, it is up to 20% faster in rendering 2D. And this is thanks to the new rendering engine included in the browser, called Azure.

It's still a version for developers, which even reached the beta status, this speed may suffer a decline with the arrival date of release of stable version of Firefox 8. But at least we know that Mozilla is not resting on its laurels.
