Google Docs gets support of ZIP and RAR

Smarter than ever, Google Docs will not make more of a beast when the attached file is actually several documents in compressed ZIP or RAR format. The long-awaited support these two file extensions were added to Google's hosting service, as informs Ricardo Fraga Google Discovery.

When you receive a message in Gmail with any of these files, the service automatically e-mail offers viewing of compressed files. Instead of showing the text file or spreadsheet, however, Google Docs Viewer - name of the document viewing tool - displays a list with the files contained in the Annex.

Look.

Not enough to present a list with the files, Google Docs still displays the icon that identifies the nature of that document (in the screenshot above are pictures for example).

Once the ZIP / RAR is open, there are options to save that particular document in Google Docs or to download it directly to your computer. In this case, we can say that Google decompressors replaces well-known applications, such as 7Zip or WinRar.
