Association promotes Internet Day in Latin American countries


The Association of Internet Users (AUI)  in this May   promotes the Internet in Latin American countries to "publicize and promote Internet use across the countries and get the internet to be more accessible to each people who have a disability, "according to the announcement of the association.


With support from HP, Telefonica, BBVA and technology program of the City Council of Madrid, AUI extended the invitation to establish the events on this day through a series of activities were also held in 2005, when it was realized by the first celebration in Spain. The following year, the United Nations approved the choice on 17 May as World Telecommunication and Information Society, sharing the same goals of the Internet Day.

An event on the same line was made by the European Union in 2004. The Safer Internet Day was repeated in 2005 with the goal of making the Internet a safer and more confident with the support of most EU countries.

The countries that will confirm the participation in the Spanish initiative through a series of coordinated activities of their respective technical offices are Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela.

Awards
As a way to "recognize the efforts of individuals and institutions to incorporate citizens in the information society, fostering accessibility to the Internet, to encourage open participation of people and institutions in the journey of the day May 17 and contribute to the dissemination of the event" the awards were instituted Internet Day.

The awards are organized into seven categories: Best site, better event, better company, better communicator, an educational initiative digital divide and internet and me.
