Citibank admits it was attacked by hackers

Citibank confirmed on the morning of Thursday (9), that an attack by hackers stole data from more than 210,000 U.S. customers. The exposed data reveal account numbers, names and contact information of those customers.

In a statement, the bank said other data such as security codes and dates of birth were not leaked. But the big criticism of the bank, besides the fact of having been a security breach, it was because of the omission, since the attack occurred in May, and no customer has been informed since then.

The statement also indicated that the number of customers affected represents 1% of Citibank's base, which represents a significant number of 210 000 people. The same press did not report the attack happened and that loophole was not explored, however, security experts say the data responsible for the invasion may try to get the data it missed.
