Review: Macbook Air

In his last event, Steve Jobs introduced the MacBook Air, 11 and 13 inches, and so the world knew the smallest device that runs Mac OS X, and unites mobility, performance, design and excellent battery life on a single notebook.

What's in the box
The news has come even before attaching the product. Opening the box, find the documentation, the traditional bumper apple and an 8GB flash drive with the operating system and iLife 2011. CDs or DVDs? No, what makes sense for a laptop that does not have an optical drive.

Design
Apple is famous worldwide for its minimalist design, and the MacBook Air supports this feature. Built on a single piece of aluminum (unibody) and weighing only 1.06 kg, the notebook has a thickness ranging between 0.3 and 1.7 cm. Unlike their brethren of the Pro line, he has not the power button on the case because it is now part of the keyboard, all to save space. For this is true even sacrifice the SD slot is present in MacBook Air 13 ", and therefore, to transfer the photos, you still need the USB cable connected to the camera. Thankfully, the model has a USB port on the right side and one on the left side of the keyboard, and also avoids problems with large connectors, which sometimes cover up the USB neighbor.

Display
With 11.6 inches and a resolution of 1366 x 768 resolution, glossy widescreen display with LED-backlit display is great for surfing the web, read email, write essays and even watch movies in comfort (since the movie is not in Full HD (1080p) because there miss processing). The MacBook Air also features a Mini DisplayPort that allows you to connect an external monitor, but if the user does not have a 27 "LED Cinema Display, Apple will need a connector for a VGA or HDMI, sold separately.

Keyboard and Trackpad
When we talk about mobility and small size, the question always remains about the ergonomics of the keyboard, as our MacBook Air hovered the doubt, type text - even that long - is quite comfortable. The model I tested had European keyboard, where [~ til] is the right side of [z] and all keystrokes - including this review - was so very quiet. Since you can not have everything in life, the keyboard is not illuminated.

The trackpad is patterned with Apple's multitouch technology (like the iPhone display), it means that you can use up four fingers simultaneously to view all open programs, or rotate a photo with two fingers!

 Performance
After you see a MacBook Air start everything will seem slow because 17 seconds after pressing the button everything is ready for use by the user waiting. This happens thanks to HD solid state (SSD), which takes only 2.9 seconds to open iMovie or 4.6 for Excel 2008 (the unit tested had a 128GB disk). This speed disk access outweighs the processor that is not as powerful and 2GB of memory, allowing a quick and enjoyable experience for those who opted for this "little remarkable."

Battery
In our tests the battery behaved well: if much required (with heavy network traffic Wi-Fi and Bluetooth mouse) lasted over three hours, and watching movies, or enter text with all radios off, lasted more than 5 hours .

Accessories
If you need to connect to a wired network, this can only be done through an accessory, Apple USB Ethernet Adapter, sold separately. It was used in tests and requires no configuration, just plug it to USB, plug the network cable and everything works perfectly. If you need to read your CDs or DVDs, you also have to spend a little more, because the USB SuperDrive does not accompany the product.
