What Happened At WWDC 2011 and meet the iOS 5, Lion and iCloud

It happened today at 14h GMT (and finished just now), the "keynote" by Steve Jobs at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where Apple introduced all the new features promised for the event: iCloud, IOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion.

"We have an incredible evening together today. Thank you so much for coming," says Jobs. "We have great things to say: OS X Lion, IOS 5:01 a cloud service very interesting"

Everything starts with the OS X Lion, with Phil Schiller, vice president of product marketing at Apple, with the new operating system version for the Mac "We have more than 54 million Mac users worldwide," says Schiller.

While the PC market by 1% per year, up 28% of Macs, improving each quarter over the past five years. The information is from Apple. "They are great not only because of hardware but the software they run."

The Lion will have more than 250 new features, and Apple will show only ten today. The first: with multitouch gestures in notebooks. The scheme is similar to the iPhone: approach the screen with two rings or do the pincer movement. "Rolling bar, who needs them," says Schiller.

The second novelty is the application running in full screen, like programs in the iPhone and iPad. And we note, also similar to what Microsoft proposed with Windows 8. There is a new control in the upper right corner of the window to leave full-screen applications.

Another new feature is the Mission Control (or "Mission Control", in Portuguese). It shows all your open applications and documents, showing on one screen with small windows thumbnails (real time) of each open program.

Craig Federighi, vice president of software for OS X, is on stage to show a bit of Lion in action. It shows the multitouch commands (using the trackpad of the MacBook), which operate much like IOS. Federighi demonstrates the new Photo Booth, with some fun effects to your webcam use with Mac in "augmented reality".

Give the command to fire on the top right to create a new space and can organize more windows.

Phil Schiller is back to talk about the Mac App Store, the App Store for OS X. "It's the best place to buy and discover new apps for Mac You can get your software in the comfort of your home," says Schiller. According to Apple, the App Store for Mac is the channel number "1" in sales of PC software, in front of Best Buy, Walmart and other stores. The App Store application is now built in Lyon, including push notifications and a way to improve security sandboxing.
\
Now, another new feature of OS X Lion: Launchpad. If you make a gesture of tweezers, all your applications appear in a grid, as in the IOS.
Another new function: Resume. With it, you need not longer stand having to carry a document in a new application after closing. Now, when you open the program it back to the point where you stopped. It's all becoming more like the IOS.

Another interesting new feature is the Auto-save. As the name implies, it automatically saves the file being edited without requiring you to stay the whole time worrying about it. Again, it is exactly how the operating system of the iPhone, iPod touch and IPAD.

Sure, Apple shows an option to disable the function or you simply go back to the version that was modified before. You can also duplicate a document, such as the use of "Save As" in Windows. The system loads only the changes saved, thus saving space and need to be looking for multiple versions of each file.

The system is being demonstrated on stage. Basically, with this new feature you never need to worry about getting a document by saving the time, or even every modification. You can even copy and paste parts between each version. OS X is becoming more like the IOS. Will we one day have to unify the two systems?

Another unique feature: Airdrop. It is a feature that lets you share files using the cloud, instead of getting through USB drives from machine to machine. To share, simply drag the file to the user you want. He receives a notification and can now begin downloading. No need for any configuration, is simple to use, according to Schiller.

The latest addition to the Mac OS X Lion demonstrated today at the WWDC is a new version of Mail. With the new Mail, there is a display mode in three columns, at the time of search suggestions (with intelligent subjects or people).

Now there is a combined messaging system, as with the online application Gmail. There is also a favorite bar, to organize your contacts and conversations. And everything can be done with the touchpad with gestures into commands. You can search for people, issues or date - or even combine all three parameters. The results hide the answers and passed on messages that are redundant.

Phil Schiller says are the top ten new features in OS X, but much more as an assistant migration from Windows, FileVault 2, FaceTime embedded server Lion and more. All this now much easier: just upgrade the App Store, there is no more need for installation disks. Are 4GB download without rebooting and licensed for use in "all your Macs personally committed." The price of all this? U.S. $ 29.99!

Now, Scott Forstall, senior vice president of IOS software, takes the stage to talk about the IOS 5.0, which equips the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It is one of the most anticipated moments of the presentation! Forstall presented study from Comscore putting Apple in the first, with Android in the second.

He talks a little about the iPad 2, describing it as "a fantastic product." 200 million products were sold IOS. Over 25 million from the original iPads, 14 months ago. The mobile system from Apple would have a market share of 44% compared to 28% of Android, BlackBerrys and 19% to 9% for the remainder.

There were 15 billion songs sold by iTunes Store, and 130 million books for 14 billion iBookstore.Mais applications were downloaded in the App Store in all, it provides 90 000 apps just for iPad. Were $ 2.5 billion just for developers, according to Apple. Are 225 million accounts in the App Store, all with credit cards linked to shopping with just one click.

Now Forstall talks about the news related to IOS 5.0. The first is, as many suspected, a new scheme for Notifications! Bruno: Among the 200 new features, the Notification was one of the most anticipated. "We did something to solve some current problems," said Forstall.

The current system is intrusive, interrupting important activities - or even a match in one game. This all changed now with the Center for notifications, which aggregates all warnings and can be accessed by sliding your finger across the top of the screen - yes, a feature much like the current scheme of Android.

If you're in an app and receives a notification, an animation appears at the top of the page with a summary and then disappears. Not as boring as the old scheme and seems much more practical. He also appears on the screen lock, which can directly access the application by touching the notification.

Close to some reports, just tap the little "X" which is next to each function. There is no sign of an appeal to close all at once, apparently.

The new system of "signatures" within applications of periodicals such as newspapers and magazines is called Newsstand. Now, this new app combines all the publications in a single shelf, similar to the iBook. New editions are now downloaded automatically, including being available for offline reading.

Another rumor goes to fruition with the announcement of the 3rd new feature: integration with Twitter. "We want to make all our customers can use Twitter easily IOS on all products," said Forstall. Just log into the system and you're ready to use in any application that requests it.
Even the video and photo applications now have integration with microblogging, adding attachments quite easily. Can you join up with contacts, send text and links from Safari and Maps for locations.
Another feature: the Safari browser. There is a new button to the Safari Reader, in the address bar. Now you can put a site in full screen more easily. Very useful especially for the smaller screens of the iPod and iPhone. The Reading List is a kind of RSS aggregator for Safari, with a functionality similar to the Read It Later.

Another eagerly awaited novel by users: the browser now has tabs, making it look like Safari for the desktop (or other browsers like Chrome and Firefox). Forstall shows up to 20 tabs open simultaneously. Moving to Reader mode, all content is presented in only a preview. And of course there is integration with Twitter.

The next feature is the Reminders, something like notinhas paper that fill any office desk. With the app you can put reminders for any date, even with a locale added. The application also syncs between all devices, which is great for those who have iPhones and iPads at home.

New Feature: Improvements in camera app. 4 The iPhone's popularity is such that he is the most used appliance (from regular cameras too) at Flickr. Now, the camera button is also on the lock screen. With this, you can take pictures even without unlocking (not even necessary to put the password, if you use the feature). And the best part: you can use to increase the volume button to take pictures! This new development is something long requested by users and won much applause from the audience.
There is also now exposure settings for the photos, using pinch to zoom. You can even do a quick edit with cut (crop), reduce red eye, and even an improved automatic feature of the images. Goodbye, Photoshop!

Another function revitalized: Mail. Now there are rich-text formatting control, indexing, addresses that can be dragged (like the To: CC: or BCC) is seeking a full messages, use of signaling messages, safe navigation S / MIME and built-in dictionary, which we expect is better than the current broker (target of complaint of many Brazilians).

There is also a new type of keyboard which can be divided into the fabric ergonomic way: once again feature nearly identical to that shown by Microsoft last week in Windows Presentation 8. Anyway, it is a very welcome feature for those who type with their thumbs more, especially in the iPad.

Now a long-awaited news: Free PC. 5 with the IOS, there will no longer need cables to connect and sync the IOS devices to computers all the time. "We know we're selling [products] to various places that do not have computers," Nguyen said. Now, you will buy an iPhone (or any other IOS) and it will show a screen "Welcome" instead of annoying picture that requires activation of the device through iTunes.

Another novelty is the system update over the air, ie, lowering the apparatus itself. Calendars can be edited, including deleted. Folders of photos and e-mail as well. Basically, a lot more things can be done without connecting the device to a computer.

Another novelty of the new IOS: improvements at Game Center. Apple says there are 50 million users in nine months of deployment, while Xbox Live is 30 million in eight years. Moreover, the company says is the No. 1 platform for video games.

Now the Game Center can show scores of friends, and Game recommendations and contacts. In fact, it makes you to download games directly from the application. You can also play games in turns with friends.

New Feature: IMessage. "I believe we have the best messaging client for the iPhone. It works tremendously well for sending messages and photos and our customers love it - but our iPhone users. And for those who have iPad and iPod touch?" Said Forstall. Now the app is available for these other platforms too, including communicating regardless of what device is using IOS contact.

The user receives the warning by the new reporting system and can start chatting. There is even a feature that shows if the other contact is typing a message at this time. It's basically an instant messenger as Windows Live Messenger (MSN popular) and Skype. Works by both the WiFi and the 3G network. The app has the push system, and it is also possible to attach pictures or videos by clicking the camera icon.

These are only the top ten new features in IOS 5, a system that has more than 200 new features including the AirPlay with double screen, which allows transmission of iPad screen directly to the TV without HDMI adapter. You can sync your iTunes music library over Wi-Fi too, as was expected. A big one has expected for a long time.

There are new gestures for the transition between multi-tasking applications. The developer kit (SDK) will be available later on Monday. For consumers, the software will be available in the fall (spring here in Brazil). IOS 5 will rotate in the same units of the latest version, starting with the 3G iPhone, iPad original and third-generation iPod touch and including all current devices.

Steve Jobs then returns to the stage to talk about iCloud. "We've been working on this for some time now and I'm very excited," he says. He talks about ten years ago, he realized that the computer would become like a centering our lives, with photos, music and content.

Jobs claims that during that time, everything worked fine when syncing with the Mac, but it is outdated for some time. "Keep the devices in sync is making us crazy," says Jobs. Very true. Now he says he is demoted to the computers of just a device while it migrates to the cloud.
All devices can cope with the cloud at any time. "I do not have to take my equipment out of my pocket," he says. "Some people think that the cloud is just a large hard disk in the sky ... We think it is much more than that."

"The iCloud stores its content in the cloud and leads, wireless, all for your device. And it automatically uploads, stores and sends it to your other devices"
Jobs acknowledges that the service is like MobileMe, "was not one of our best moments." The contacts will sync in the cloud for all devices. Change in one and the change will be present in others. You'll also be able to share calendars with other users.

You can make an account no@me.com and have all the e-mail synchronized between devices. All without advertising. And, while MobileMe costs $ 99 a year, now iCloud feature is being offered free!
Several applications, including the AppStore will support iCloud. Just click the cloud to install applications on your device.

Steve has a backup program for users of iCloud, which makes a daily backup via Wi-Fi, including music, applications and books you have bought iBooks, plus videos and photos.

With iCloud you can create a document in Pages and publish it in the cloud, so it will be available on all phones on which you have Pages installed. The same goes for Numbers and Keynote. Steve demonstrates the capabilities of Keynote iCloud iPad.

Now is the time for a new feature, Photo Stream, which is inside the photo application. With it, all pictures taken on their handsets with the IOS will be saved in the cloud, and thence sent to other gadgets. The images will be saved for 30 days, and to ultimately save them, just put them in an album.

Eddy Cue, vice president of Internet services, takes the stage to make a statement of appeal Photo Stream.

And it's time to use iTunes in the Cloud: Imagine you bought a song on the iPhone, but it is not available on your iPod. From now on, just click on the cloud next to the songs and albums that have already purchased for download to any device with SOI at no extra cost! Eddy Cue makes a statement.
The iCloud will be automatically configured in new equipment with IOS 5, and customers will have the capacity to 5GB e-mail, which does not include applications, photos, videos, music and so on.

One more thing is the iTunes Match, a feature that searches your music and compares with the ones being sold at the store. All who are found, they will gain an upgrade to the standard format of the iTunes Store (256Kbps AAC without DRM), without you having to waste time uploading each song with Apple servers. ITunes Match will cost $ 25 per year.

Steve shows images of some of Apple's data center, which he says are "full of expensive things," and ready to receive files sent by clients via iCloud.
